SSS, a DLH Corporation Company, is looking for a Scientific Data Analyst, using SAS, to join our talented and innovative team supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.
CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) is charged with preventing HIV infection and reducing the incidence of HIV-related illness and death. The overarching objectives of the contract held by SSS are to assist DHP in addressing its public health mission by providing data management, data governance, data analysis, and data dissemination support to strengthen the nationwide capacity to monitor the HIV epidemic. As such, SSS is seeking a Scientific Data Analyst with the following skills:
Responsibilities
- Develop SAS programs for validating surveillance study data.
- Verify that all variables that should be included in the resulting dataset are present in the dataset and extraneous variables are excluded.
- Identify data discrepancies and other inconsistencies in the resulting dataset.
- Run duplicate procedures and comparison of results to ensure validity with applicable standard of the resulting final data sets, indicators, questionnaire coding, metadata set, SAS programming, and output files.
- Determine that variables calculated during data processing were calculated correctly (e.g. variable combining Race/Hispanic ethnicity).
- Ensure that lost interviews have been added to the resulting dataset.
- Generate data tables reflecting aggregate numbers for key indicators of data quality and aggregate recruitment numbers for study areas.
- Review output from the SAS programs generated above, identify problems in the output that need to be reported.
- Review online data error logs from each study area to ensure that requested data modifications are in keeping with rules outlined by the study.
- Identify errors/omissions of variable formats or labels. Document problems and proposed corrections needed to be made by the team before finalizing the data.
- Review the data files containing raw interviews (i.e., QDS data warehouses) to ensure that study areas have not deleted interviews and that the exported number of interviews is the same as the number in the resulting dataset. - Review the quality of the weights generated for venue-based sampling cycles.
Qualifications
Minimum Skills:
- 2 years of experience in generating SAS-based reports using a variety of methods (e.g., PROC REPORT, PROC TABULATE) and exporting those reports to other formats such as Microsoft Excel, PDF, and HTML.
- 2 years of experience in manipulating and cleaning data using a variety of SAS functions, formats/informats, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple data sources to monitor and assess data to ensure data quality, including accuracy and completeness
- Clear communication (written and verbal).
- Knowledge behavioral surveillance data.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with SAS MACROS.
- Proficient SAS coding experience.
- Experience with Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) methodology and data.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics, or related field
Preferred Requirements / Experience:
- Master’s degree in public health, statistics, or related field
- Knowledge of public health promotion programs and data
- Knowledge of behavioral and social science research methods
- Experience preparing with research papers or presentations
- Detail oriented and able to create meticulous documentation of variables, datasets, and data attributes with a commitment to generating accurate data and products
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
