What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Trainer position at DM Burr Group?
This position will be based out of our Corporate office in Flint, Michigan but will be traveling to various sites throughout the state.
JOB SUMMARY: The Custodial Trainer is responsible for training employees on proper protocols and procedures for cleaning and maintenance of our customer’s facility. Position is responsible for developing and implementing a standardized training program to be utilized at all sites where DM Burr provides facilities management services. Position will coordinate and conduct on-the-job training for all custodial staff. In addition, the Custodial Trainer may be asked to perform custodial work at assigned sites when not training staff. ***Must be able to regularly travel to sites within assigned Michigan region using a company-provided vehicle.***
Schedule: Full-time, working four 10-hour days per week, mostly 2nd shift

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Work with new employees at their assigned school and complete on-the-job new hire training on all required cleaning processes.
- Act as a mentor/coach for new employees, ensuring consistent, effective, and efficient execution of their assigned duties.
- Complete refresher training with current employees as deemed necessary to improve performance.
- Provide performance feedback to trainees and their managers/supervisors.
- Train new and current employees on floor care procedures following the DM Burr Floor Care Procedures Manual, as needed.
- Train new and current employees on the proper use of cleaning equipment (vacuum, carpet extractors, wet vacs, trot mops, side-by-side, automatic floor scrubbers, and any other equipment used within the district).
- Assist with training employees with the operation of any new equipment purchased for the district.
- When requested by a manager/supervisor, assist in re-training employees that are not meeting quality and/or performance expectations.
- Assist with coordinating and conducting any special on-site training sessions for staff.
- Act as a role model for safety protocols by following all safety standards as outlined in company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain current knowledge of cleaning methods and regularly inspect cleaning stations/closets/carts to ensure proper standards of cleanliness.
- Through research and training, recommend “best practices” to management for the execution of facilities management services.
- Review, recommend, and oversee training programs offered by third party providers.
- Additional duties as assigned or needed per the discretion of the Director of Operations.
Custodial cleaning duties:
- Dust high and low completely. Dust vents, baseboards, blinds/shades, sills, window ledges, ledges, shelves, horizontal exposed surfaces of furniture, moldings, and door frames. Dust and damp wipe cleared countertops with disinfectant.
- Clean dry-erase marker boards and trays, clean chalkboards and wipe chalk tray.
- Wash interior/exterior glass windows and wipe clean the frames.
- Empty waste receptacles, replace can liner, put back in place, and take trash to the designated area. Damp wipe waste containers.
- Spot clean soiled areas on walls, light switches, doors, knobs, handles, and push plate with disinfectant cleaning solutions. Remove any graffiti immediately using approved remover.
- Vacuum walk-off mats, detail vacuum carpeted floors, corners and edges, vacuum upholstered furniture, and properly arrange the furniture.
- Dust mop or use a broom to sweep hard surface floors and wet mop hard surface floors with a germicidal cleaner.
- Clean and sanitize all restroom fixtures, clean mirrors, hand dryers, wipe all counters, empty feminine disposal containers and replace new wax bags, empty trash, and wet mop with germicidal cleaner.
- Check, refill, and spot clean all toilet paper, paper towel, and hand soap dispensers. Utilize stub roll features in dispenser to ensure product is not wasted and an adequate amount of material is available to the customer.
- Clean and disinfect all sinks, toilet bowls, and urinals (wipe dry as needed).
- Perform light building maintenance duties as needed.
- Completely clean desks with disinfectant or furniture polish, and empty pencil sharpeners.
- Lift up to 50 pounds and be able to climb an eight-foot ladder.
- Bend, squat, twist, and turn multiple times during your shift, and be on your feet for up to 10 hours/day.
- Snow removal, grass cutting, various outside work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or higher preferred
- At least three years working in custodial services, maintenance, or facilities operations; four or more years is preferred
- At least two years training and/or supervising staff in custodial services, maintenance, or facilities operations
- Practical knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial and general non-technical maintenance work
- Ability to train, coach, and motivate staff and supervisors
- Project management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Close attention to detail
- Team aptitude and positive approach
- Must be able to pass a federal background check in order to perform work in school districts
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
