Overview:
As a Residential Director at DME, you are responsible for overseeing the residential life program, ensuring the well-being, safety, and personal development of students living on campus. This position lives on campus in the dorms. Your role involves providing guidance, support, and mentorship to students, fostering a positive and inclusive community environment, and managing the day-to-day operations of the residential halls.
Responsibilities:
1. Residential Life Management: Manage all aspects of residential life, including dormitory operations, room assignments, and student conduct. Enforce school policies and regulations within the residential community, promoting a safe and respectful living environment.
2. Student Support: Offer guidance and support to students facing academic, personal, or social challenges. Serve as a mentor and resource, providing direction to appropriate support services as needed.
3. Community Building (Cafeteria and Dorms): Foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among students through organized activities, events, and community-building initiatives. Promote a sense of belonging within the residential community, celebrating the unique backgrounds and perspectives of all students.
4. Safety and Security: Ensure the safety and security of students living on campus, implementing safety protocols and emergency procedures. Address safety concerns or incidents promptly and effectively, collaborating with the Director of Student-Life.
5. Staff Supervision: Supervise all residential staff members, including resident assistants, providing guidance, training, and support. Oversee, all room checks and hold staff accountable for maintaining expectations and cleanliness of rooms and floors. Coordinate staff schedules and responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of the residential program.
6. Administrative Duties: Complete administrative tasks related to residential life, such as maintaining accurate records, safety updates (fire drills etc.) and preparing reports. Direct dorm hall meetings (bi-weekly) with staff, making sure policies and procedures are followed. Collaborate with other school departments and administrators to coordinate efforts and achieve shared goals.
7. Student Development: Develop and implement programs and initiatives to support the academic, social, and personal development of students. Provide opportunities for leadership development, community service, and extracurricular involvement, encouraging student engagement and growth.
8. Utilize and manage REACH App to record student’s attendance, curfew, leave and behavior.
9. Utilize and manage Satlo, DME’s dorm badge/ID badge system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with adolescents or young adults in an educational or residential setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse
backgrounds.
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in residential life preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
- Clear background check and drug screening..
