Key Purpose of the Job:
DNEG Feature Animation has been growing over the past couple of years, bringing in the best talent to work on our shows. We aim to compete with the best in the business and our Real Time Workflow Lead plays an important part in driving the team to success.
In this role, you will work closely with clients and show leadership as a Real Time expert to develop and maintain real time workflows, solve technical issues, support and develop Real Time tools and techniques in support of current FEAT projects and to advance the studio's Real Time capabilities.
You will partner closely with the Animation production pipeline team to guide the UE integration into the production pipeline; e.g. assets, textures, camera data, editorial information, rigging, lighting setups, etc. In addition, you will collaborate closely with the DNEG Virtual production technology team, which provides technical UE and virtual production development expertise and explore the use and integration of various input devices to improve the user workflow experience.
You will have the ability to acknowledge, diagnose and resolve issues throughout the production process and help the department team achieve artistic and production goals. Reporting to the VP of Animation Technology, and working closely with the Department Supervisors, VFX Supervisors and the Pipeline team, you will assist in integrating and maintaining the pipeline by acting as a point of contact for the department teams.
Must Have
Extensive feature animation, visual effects and hands-on production experience;
Technical workflow and tool experience,
An eye for details, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to feature production work;
Strong technical and creative problem solving skills;
Solid understanding of Feature Animation or VFX pipelines and software;
Able to work efficiently with large amounts of data, being able to ensure that the department workflows can scale well and make the best use of the resources available.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Able to provide artistic and technical solutions to the team;
Requires in-depth Unreal Engine experience including UE blueprint scripting and UE configurations;
Experience with real time workflows as well as traditional CG production pipelines;
Programming experience in Python
Nice to Have:
3D software knowledge of key applications such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke or Renderman
Scripting experience (Python, Lua, VEX etc.);
Experience with CG rendering solutions (Renderman, Arnold, Katana, Solaris, Mantra, etc)
Experience using USD or developing USD workflows in a production environment;
Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups;
Ability to prototype rapidly and deliver quick solutions;
Previous work experience working in a fast-paced creative technology environment.
Familiarity with USD is a plus, but not required
