DNV – Energy’s Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transmission Development Consultant, in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV Energy’s PSA team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Senior Transmission Development Consultant must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the PSA business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and provide customers with excellent customer service. This position will ideally be based out of our Toronto (CA) office.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate the development of ambitious yet constructible transmission solutions and translate these into winning bids
- Support the growth of existing and new business lines by understanding and clearly communicating DNV’s unique value propositions
- Ensuring that technical analyses are distilled into key takeaways that address a project’s economic value proposition and technical feasibility
- Initiating and coordinating projects across internal specialists (including energy economics, civil, structural, offshore, and electrical engineering, energy assessment, technology experts, permitting, etc.)
- Communicating with clients to provide timely and relevant project updates and deliverables while ensuring milestones are met and expectations are exceeded
- Collaborating with technical specialists to write and peer review reports
- Developing proposals in response to sole-sourced requests or RFPs
- Developing and providing subject matter expertise in select areas
- Participating in continuous improvement efforts for the PSA team, including tool development, process refinement, and lessons-learned activities
- Developing content for blog posts, industry conferences, and client workshops
- Juggling multiple projects and levels of responsibility simultaneously
- Working with a diverse group of talented people to supporting the mission and vision and have some fun while you do it
Position Qualifications
What is Required
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
- Experience with developing greenfield transmission solutions from origination to basic design in or between ISO regions in North America
- Broad knowledge of the electric industry including recent trends and history, awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level, including familiarity with RTO/ISO transmission planning standards, and interconnection application processes
- Familiarity with high voltage transmission technology characteristics, state of the art and supply chain (e.g., overhead transmission lines, submarine and underground cables, substations, HVDC converters, offshore transmission, FACTS)
- Experience in performing transmission planning studies with power system simulation software packages such as PSS-E, PSLF, Aspen, PSCAD and/or TARA
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

- Excellent at building and maintaining personal and professional relationships, including a desire to coach and mentor junior staff and interact routinely with Customers to build rapport and credibility
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and synthesize technical information and present it clearly and concisely
- Ability to understand your audience and tune your communication styles to suit varying degrees of technical and commercial understanding
- Maintain a customer-focused, consultative approach to projects and customer needs
- Work within expected deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office portfolio of products: Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio
- Advanced degree in relevant engineering or quantitative field
- Proven track record creating thought leadership, such as published journal articles, conference presentations and industry committee/working group participation
- Experience with project management and CRM software tools
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission development in the context of engineering, estimation, construction, development, origination, consulting, finance, or project management
- Candidates with experience in:
- Offshore wind farm export links
- HVDC transmission links
- Cross-border transmission projects
