What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telephone Agent position at DOCTORS EXCHANGE INC?
The Doctors' Exchange was founded in 1921. Approximately 75% of our clients are physicians, hospitals, and medical clinics. We also serve a variety of local, national and international commercial clients. We strive to be the highest quality answering and messaging service in the nation. We believe that excellent customer service is paramount. Operator professionalism is a must. Dependability (showing up for work and being on time) is essential.
We provide answering service solutions 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. We are always open including all holidays, natural disasters and global pandemics.
Morning Shift: 6:00am-2:30pm, 5 days/week including one weekend day.
*Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm-11:00pm, 5 days/week including one weekend day.
Midnight Shift: 11:00pm-9:00am, 4 nights/week including one weekend night.
*Training lasts a couple of months on the afternoon shift. How long depends on each individual's dedication to learning the job. Training MUST occur at our Covington, LA call center. Once trained, you may work from home.
Our telephone agents follow a three step process on all calls:
1. Answer the phone with a smile;
2. Take accurate and complete messages per our client’s instructions;
3. Immediately deliver the message to the person on-call.
Telephone Operator Requirements:
- Dependability - Operators absolutely cannot miss their scheduled work shifts. It is important that we have enough experienced operators on duty at all times.
- Personable - We insist on a pleasant work environment. Teamwork and cooperation are essential.
- Telephone Personality - Operators must be courteous at all times to all callers.
- Grammar - Operators must use proper grammar and spelling. Because 75% of our clients are medical in nature, there is no margin for error when communicating in emergency situations.
- Computer Knowledge - Operators must be familiar with Windows.
- Typing Skills - Operators must type 50 words per minute minimum.

Level 1 - $13/hour — 5 weeks —Covington Call Center
Level 2 - $13/hour --- 30 days --- Covington Call Center
Level 3 - $14/hour --- 30 days --- At home if qualified, otherwise Covington.
Level 4 - $15/hour --- Based on personal performance --- At home if qualified, otherwise Covington.
Our average telephone agent earns $16.50/hour.
Additional compensation of $3-$10/hour is available via promotions after Level 4 to positions like:
Operations Supervisor
Shift Supervisor
Trainer (Senior, Junior, In-House)
Quality Assurance
Computer Programmer
Pledge Coordinator (PBS/NPR)
Midnight-Shift Telephone Agent
Benefits:
- Health insurance: Provided by Blue Cross / Blue Shield. We pay 50% of the employee's premium.
- Dental insurance: Provided by MetLife. We pay 50% of the employee's premium.
- Personal Days: After one year of full-time employment you earn two weeks (10 days). After two years of full-time employment you earn three weeks (15 days). Personal days may be used for vacation, illness, other personal needs or may be cashed in if needed or unused.
- Holidays: Some holiday work is required as we operate 24/7/365. Doctors Exchange pays time-and-one-half for seven annual holidays.
- Overtime: OT is offered on a regular basis at time-and-one-half of regular pay.
- End-of-Year Bonus (similar to profit sharing).
