POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for the planning, organizing, developing, and directing the hospital’s nursing services, education and other clinical functions. The CNO participates with the hospital’s governing body, management, medical staff and clinical leaders in the hospital’s decision making structures and processes and policies and procedures that delineate how patient care needs are assessed and met by the institution. The Chief Nurse Officer speaks on behalf of the clinical and nursing services to the same extent that other hospital leaders speak for their respective disciplines or departments and exercises final authority over those associated with the provision of clinical treatment and services. The Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) performs such other duties as may be necessary in the best interest of the hospital and carries out those duties as well as other duties which may be specifically delegated to him/her by the Chief Executive Officer.
POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
- A Texas Registered Nurse license required
- CPR Certification is required.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Some evening or weekend work will be required
- Bilingual – English/Spanish.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in a health care management position supported by a demonstrated record of achievement and administrative responsibility.
- Strong clinical practice and fiscal skills with a knowledge of health care regulatory, compliance and accreditation requirements and standards.
- The ability to motivated and drive a Hospital cultural of excellence.
- Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- Responsible for the direct oversight of the Hospital’s day to day clinical and patient care operations.
- Specific responsibilities will include the day to day oversight of the Hospital’s inpatient and structured outpatient clinical and patient care areas, including ECT through the direct supervision of the Unit Managers.
- The development and implementation of the Hospital’s strategic and operational plans for all clinical programming of the Hospital.
- Supervise the Asst. Director of Nursing. The elements of supervision include planning, assigning, reviewing and evaluating performance, training and recommending hire, termination and discipline. Supervision also includes responsibly for providing documentation to the support recommended corrective and disciplinary actions, signing performance plans and appraisals and resolving informal grievances.
- Directs all administrative aspects of a Nursing Department
- Assesses the needs of the Nursing Department and makes recommendations to the CEO
- Reviews and approves all nursing policies and procedures
- Directs all nursing programs and services
- Prepares office and special program budgets and oversees all expenditures for activities, resources and supplies.
- Represent the Hospital in the community by participating in various community based activities and/or serving on volunteer boards related to the mission, vision and core business of the Hospital.
- Will serve as member of the Hospital’s Management Team as designated by the board.
- Other duties as assigned.
