In this role you will follow prepress procedures and quality checks to ensure efficient and timely creation of proofs and print-ready files, ensuring accuracy and specifications for customer requirements and various printing methods.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking to hire an individual to work in our Prepress/Imposition department. This is an onsite full-time position, Monday – Friday (8-hour shift), daytime hours. Weekly hours may exceed 40 on occasion during busy periods.

Ideal candidates will have experience working in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines with strong attention to detail and sound analytical skills. The position entails setting up production artwork for paper-based printing jobs. Work types include perfect bound books, direct mail, and commercial printing products. While prior pre-press experience is an advantage, we are open to mentoring the right candidate. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preflight and troubleshoot incoming files.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to image quality, resolution, and/or color accuracy.
  • Make edits and corrections to files that meet customer’s satisfaction and prepare proofs for their review.
  • Perform internal proofing and quality control checks on each job produced.
  • Format and layout of large print projects with complex data, including TOC, Index, Footnotes, etc.
  • Setup and execute variable data files while following addressing and mail regulations.
  • Impose approved artwork for print on a variety of print devices, focusing on speed, accuracy, and appropriate layout.
  • Create new hotfolders and digital workflows to expedite existing work.
  • Work independently and effectively make decisions and solve problems.
  • Coordinate the daily prepress schedule with customer service and scheduling to consistently meet customer dates.
  • Work closely with customer service, production, and technical staff, to ensure both customer and production requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Printing industry or comprehensive knowledge of 1-2 years of experience in printing processes, binding methods and paper/ink is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat), and ability to learn associated industry specific software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Strong attention to detail and knowledge of punctuation, grammar, and an ability to proofread to ensure highest standards of quality are met.
  • Openness to training and development, especially in the context of a print production environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-based environment where tasks and responsibilities may change based on workload.

Compensation

  • $17/hr-$25/hr (Starting wage commensurate with work experience)
  • Annual Gainsharing Bonus (profit sharing)
