Job Summary
The Service Engineer utilizes skills in mechanical, fluid power, electrical and electronic systems to install, repair, and maintain highly automated systems at client facilities throughout the United States and foreign countries. This position also supports sales within the department.
Essential Functions
1. Installs, repairs and services systems, wiring, machinery and equipment in customer's establishment, according to specifications and manufactures instructions.
2. Assembles and installs electrical and electromechanical components and systems, using hand tools, electrical testing instruments, and wiring diagrams.
3. Repairs or supervise repair of worn or defective machinery or equipment in customer's plant.
4. Modifies previously installed equipment to ensure compatibility with new units or with design changes.
5. Consults with customer and engineering staff to resolve design and operational problems.
6. Participates in debug and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of machine in manufacturer's plant to become familiar with machine operation.
7. Operates machine through Site Acceptance Test (SAT) at customer's establishment to ensure that quality and operation meet specifications.
8. Confers with customer's representatives to determine effective methods of machine operation for specific tasks.
9. May be asked to assist in the identification of training needs and participate in the development of machine-specific training programs.
10. Performs routine maintenance and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
11. Conduct tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected.
12. Determines source of operating errors and work with Engineering to determine the most effective method to resolve the issue.
13. Remains current concerning technological developments, design practices and manufacturing processes.
14. Effectively interacts with internal and external team members across all departments.
15. Must be willing to participate in specialized training as assigned by supervisory personnel.
16. Understands and complies with requirements of the QMS, AS9100, and/or ISO 9000.
17. Trains customer's personnel in operating, adjusting, maintaining, and repairing machinery or equipment.
18. Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
19. Additional duties as assigned.
20. Additional work hours as required.
21. Travel on an as required basis by company and customers.
Requirements
Required:
1. Post-secondary degree in technical field, or equivalent work experience and demonstrated technical capability.
2. Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated experience in installation and service of complex industrial systems.
3. Must be able to meet security clearance requirements and pass background checks for access to secured customer facilities.
4. Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
5. Broad background in industrial control hardware and software, tool and die operations, welding, and fluid power and mechanical systems
6. Working knowledge of Windows-based personal computers and software
7. Proficient in equipment installation, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
8. Ability to program industrial control hardware, PLC's, motion control, operator interface terminals, and data acquisition equipment.
9. Represent Doerfer Corporation and TDS Automation in a professional, positive manner.
10. Develops plans to accomplish work, prioritize and organize one's own work.
11. Handles multiple, and often conflicting priorities.
12. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
13. Ability to effectively instruct customer operators and repair technicians.
14. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
