What you will do as a TIG Welder :
- Grind and cut metal to appropriate sizes.
- Creates jigs when production quantities determine a need
- Safely move gas cylinders and attach them to fabrication equipment
- Set up welders in a way that conforms to the company’s welding procedure specification
- Perform diagnostic and basic maintenance to ensure the welding machine is running at optimal performance
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications
- Repair broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts
- Lay out, position, and tack weld workpieces
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
- Prepare joint to be welded by grinding or other processes before beginning welding
- Remove and / or repair any discontinuities from the weld before continuing the fabrication process #Metrojobs
What you need to be a TIG Welder :
- 1-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3 years of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Welding certification is preferred
- Ability to become ASME certified during the first few weeks
- Ability to pass a 3 304 sch. 40 6g pipe test and a 1 2 304 sch.10 6g pipe test
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to frequently lift and / or move up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
