Aloha! We are now accepting applications for a full-time Boat Captain to join our amazing team!
Position Requirements: United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Master Credential 50 Tons or greater upon near coastal waters. Marine Radio Operator Permit. FIRST AID / CPR certified. Current Department of Transportation TWIC card. Expert knowledge and experience maneuvering and maintaining boats and handling/ securing lines. Basic knowledge in boat mechanical and electrical maintenance. Knowledge of Ocean currents, tide changes, wind and wave strength, and direction. Responsible for ensuring the safety of the crew, passengers, and equipment based on good judgment.
Responsibilities:
1.) Maintaining the highest standards of safety in the performance of CAPTAIN duties and effective teamwork with CREW, PHOTOGRAPHER, TOUR GUIDE, OFFICE STAFF, DRIVERS, OPERATION MANAGER, and OWNER.
2.) Command of the vessel. The captain is responsible for its safe and efficient operation, including operation, navigation, crew management, and ensuring that the vessel complies with local and international laws, as well as company and state policies. All persons on board, including crew, other staff members, passengers, and guests are under the captain's authority and are his or her ultimate responsibility. The captain is responsible for the cleanliness and seaworthiness of the boat and all equipment on board.
3.) Assisting as needed in boat activities throughout the tour, including:
* Preparation of boat and supplies needed for the tour
* Making sure boat is clean and organized and ready for tour
* Greeting guests as they arrive, and thanking them as they leave the tour
* Participating with respect in Oli chant and closing circle ceremonies.
* Explaining safety procedures, equipment instruction, and general information.
* Locating Dolphins and other marine animals for the guests to observe.
* Keeping a constant watch on guests to ensure safety during the entire tour.
* Lunch and snack preparation
* Joining full group photographs with guests.
4.) Check/ maintain sufficient levels of engine oil.
5.) Must be professional in performance and attitude from start to finish.
6.) Must be well-groomed, in good appearance, and inappropriate uniform at appropriate times.
7.) Inspect vessels to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment.
8.) Supervise crew by giving directions on how to handle and secure lines.
9.) Must be able to maintain appropriate communication with staff and supervisors.
10.) Be at work when scheduled and at the appropriate time.
11.) Should be able to participate in meetings or gatherings scheduled to better the tour.
12.) Must complete a pre-employment drug screen and be willing to take random drug screens as selected by the Maritime Consortium.
13.) Must stay current on all required credentials, safety certifications including first aid and C.P.R. procedures.
14.) Safely secure vessel to accommodate changes in weather conditions.
15.) Actively monitor the weather and surf to steer and operate the vessel safely to set the appropriate course and speed.
16.) Keep the tour on time. The captain is responsible for pacing the program so all activities are completed in the appropriate scheduled time frame.
17.) Must be accountable. The captain should always have a working cell phone present so the OFFICE, TOUR GUIDE, DRIVER, FOOD SERVICE, CREW, OPERATION MANAGER, and OWNER are able to reach if needed.
18.) Maintain records of daily activities, personnel reports, ship positions and movements, weather and sea conditions, safety drills, and maintenance records.
19.) Arrange for boat and gas cans to be fueled. Arrange for the boat to be restocked with supplies, and/or repaired.
20.) Support, maintain, and enforce the company’s philosophy about being professional while keeping a good mood and harmony among the team, guests, and self.
21.) Report to Operation Manager and/or General Manager with updates of the days' tour.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
