Reports To: Support Program Manager

Salary: This is a full-time position that pays $40,000-$44,619 annually to start based

on experience.

DVSAS Mission

The mission of DVSAS is to support individuals affected by domestic violence

sexual assault, and sexual exploitation, and to lead the community toward ending

those abuses of power.

Position Summary

The Prevention Education and Youth Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for

coordinating and delivering prevention education curriculum in Whatcom County

schools, and for promoting the agency and its mission at community events,

meetings, and trainings. This position develops and modifies curricula, resources,

and training materials based on community needs, grant requirements, and

current prevention research. The Prevention Education and Youth Advocacy

Coordinator will also provide direct client services to youth and be a part of the

program staff 24-hour helpline coverage rotation.

Responsibilities

The duties of this position include and are not limited to the following:

Prevention Education

  • Coordinate and deliver prevention education curriculum in Whatcom County



school districts.

  • Lead the ongoing development of prevention education curriculum to

increase students’ understanding of gender-based violence and gain skills

that challenge social factors that lead to this type of oppression, violence,

and unhealthy relationships.

  • Keep up-to-date on prevention research, using the CDC’s public health model

guidelines.

Community Engagement

  • Develop working relationships with school administration and staff,

participate in community networking, and engage in coordinated community

responses to domestic and sexual violence.

  • Participate in and present community training sessions, including DVSAS

Advocacy Core Training, as needed.

  • Outreach activities at community and agency events.

Direct Client Services

  • Provide direct service advocacy to youth impacted by domestic and/or sexual

violence in their community.

  • Provide direct service advocacy to all clients when not actively engaged in off-

site presentations of youth advocacy.

  • Provide after-hours helpline coverage with other program staff on a rotation.

Administrative

  • Keep thorough and accurate records of prevention education, volunteer, and

client activities.

  • Submit monthly service and training records for database documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant experience (at least two years preferred) working with youth and

engaging with the topics of domestic and sexual violence.

  • Completion of the agency’s 42-hour advocacy counselor training or equivalent

(can be completed upon hire) and a strong desire to work with survivors –

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant local community resources.
  • Access to reliable transportation, a current driver’s license, and vehicle

insurance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff and

community partners.

  • Commitment to respecting individual differences and serving diverse

populations.

  • Positive, problem-solving attitude with a willingness to provide and seek

guidance from team members.

  • Passion for ending gender-based violence.
  • Initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote equity and an understanding

of oppression and its impact on domestic/sexual violence.

  • Individuals with additional language fluency in Russian, Spanish, sign language,

or other locally relevant languages are preferred and will receive a 5% salary

range premium after a successful probationary period.
