Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina has openings for Apprentice Linemen for Electric Transmission Operations in the Columbia, SC area. Selected candidates will be responsible for assisting with the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electric lines on our transmission system. Responsibilities include:Consistently adhere to safety rules to work in proximity of high and low voltage electric equipment;Regularly climb and work from utility poles 85 - 125 feet or more, and other tall structures; Safely handle heavy/bulky equipment and materials; Be available to respond to work after hours, scheduled overtime, callouts and urgent needs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week; Work outside in inclement weather conditions; Successfully complete the four (4) year apprenticeship training program which includes both written and hands-on instruction; must be in excellent physical condition, strong mechanical skills, and ability to work long hours during emergencies and/or storm restoration; must live within a 20-mile radius (30 minute drive) of the position's service territory/work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
0-2 years of directly related experience
High School diploma or GED
Valid driver's license with a good driving history
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) within six (6) months of hire
Excellent physical condition, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to work long hours during emergency or storm restoration situations
Be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime, and callout work
Live within a 20-mile radius (or 30-minute drive) of the position's service territory/work location
Be physically and mentally capable of climbing and working from utility poles
The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.
•Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.
Education Requirements
Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history. Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) or ability to obtain one within 6mos of employment.
