Summary of Responsibility:
Responsible for the effective administration, coordination and presentation of the Memory Care training and development programs. This position is also responsible for assuring adequate and appropriate staffing of the community nursing department to meet the needs of the residents based on budget, census and as may be directed by community Leadership.
Essential Duties:
- Ensures documentation reflects wellness care provided, individual’s response to care, and disposition of each case in Memory Care.
- Obtains information concerning the residents’ backgrounds to better provide activities to meet their needs and enhance their quality of life; involves the resident’s family in planning activities when possible.
- Keeps the Executive Director informed regarding work performance of resident care staff and any unusual incident or problem regarding residents, employees, or community.
- Has administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the functions, activities, and development of all wellness personnel in Memory Care.
- Assume responsibility for taking call for Memory Care every other week, alternating with the Wellness Director.
- Encourage staff participation to enhance the resident activity program. Will work to ensure stimulation and social interaction, as well as spiritual enhancement among residents and staff.
- Coordinate with the Dining Services Director to ensure that all residents in Memory Care receive diets prescribed by the physician and snacks appropriate for their nutritional needs.
- Engages in open, effective, and ongoing communication with the community’s medical staff and medical community.
- Ensures a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees, and visitors in the memory care unit.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- May be required to provide assistance with scheduling in Memory Care and finding coverage for call-ins.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Additional Duties:
- Works beyond normal working hours and days and in other positions temporarily, as necessary for effective resident care and community operation.
- Assists with community special events, including outreach to the greater community.
- Lives the Dominion Senior Living culture in all aspects of the position; demonstrates the Dominion Senior Living “L.O.V.E.” model and professionalism when interacting with residents, resident representatives, team members, and the general public.
- Engages in open communication within and between community departments and is cooperative.
- Attends and actively participates in team meetings and required or optional continuing education programs.
- Assists in the evacuation of residents as necessary.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all resident information and honors the residents’ personal property rights.
- Maintains a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director or Central Services.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience with cognitively impaired resident, i.e. Alzheimer and Dementia, emergency care, and first aid is required.
- Must successfully complete a CPR and First Aid course and maintain a current CPR and First Aid certificate.
- Completion of certification program for Nursing Assistants preferred.
- Previous Life Enrichment, Nursing Assistant experience or student nurse is preferred.
- Approved criminal background check, physical, drug screen and TB skin test is required.
- Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
