Manage and direct the daily activities of one of the department's divisions, stations or sections. Act as liaison with outside agencies, command all subordinate personnel, and manage all supervisory personnel within the assigned division.

Responsibilities

This is a safety sensitive position

 

As a member of the Executive Command Staff, tasks include but are not limited to:

Operations:

  • Responsible for the operation of a division and/or an assigned sub-station.  Supervise and direct staff and the daily activities of the division or Station personally, or delegated to subordinate supervisors.
  • Responsible for approving reports, leave, overtime, and employee Provide recommendations on recruitment efforts and corrective actions.
  • Oversee scheduling of staff and designate districts and /or duties. Assess manpower requirements to ensure adequate staffing levels to achieve department
  • Respond to and coordinate felony investigation, respond to officer-involved situations. Receive and investigate complaints from the public regarding personnel in the division.
  • Recommend and schedule training for
  • Research, recommend to administration, and implement division operation plans for continued operational improvement.
  • Perform the duties of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, Deputy or Investigator as necessary while still performing supervisory functions and maintaining supervisory authority and res

    •  Administration:

  • Supervise Lieutenants within the assigned division and other personnel when no Lieutenant is available. Recommend improvement plans and disciplinary action for procedural infractions.
  • Ensure that follow up investigations are completed in a timely manner and all department and County policies and procedures are
  • Recommend new and/or revised policies and procedures to the Undersheriff or Major as assigned and implements policies, procedures, and general orders in response to operating conditions and demands for services by the public and governmental
  • Participate on oral boards for hiring, promotion and laterals and as a member for a variety of other
  • Perform as subject matter expert in grant proposals and may be assigned to oversee grants when
  • Represent the Undersheriff or Major in their absence and/or when
  • Attend community meetings and other meetings as required to represent the
  • Responsible for limiting County liability in all situations at all

    •  ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education. Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

     

    Experience. Nine (9) years total certified law enforcement experience. Must have held the rank of Lieutenant for a minimum of two (2) years. In addition to having successfully passed a First Line Supervisory course, must have an additional 40 hours of supervisory training with 24 of those hours in mid-level, administrative or management training.

     

    Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy.

     

    Licenses/Certifications. Must have a valid driver’s license with a verified record of good driving history. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy.  Must have current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Demonstrates advanced level of practical knowledge of a wide range of technical methods, principles and practices similar to a narrow area of a professional field; and skill in applying this knowledge to such assignments as the design and planning of difficult and well-presented projects.
