Your Role with Donley's
Perform estimating duties as member of the Preconstruction and Project Teams as assigned by the Director of Preconstruction.
Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain files both electronic and hard copy as directed.
- Analyze plans and specifications, identifying any irregularities and review scope of work required for the estimate.
- Prepare quantity surveys of work to be performed for review and use by the Preconstruction and Project Teams.
- Price out work to be self-performed and analyze subcontractor/vendor proposals to determine the degree of completeness for review by the Preconstruction and Project Teams.
- Prepare preliminary progress schedules with the assistance of Operations for projects assigned for review by the Preconstruction and Project Teams.
- Assemble all components of estimates for assigned projects per estimating processes and checklists for review by the Preconstruction and Project Teams.
- Prepare conceptual estimates under the guidance of the Lead Estimator.
- Monitor the cost progress of assigned projects throughout the construction phase, by maintaining a dialogue with on-site project team and conduct on site investigations for pre-bid/post bid analysis.
- Learn and catalog various construction systems for selecting appropriate systems.
- Execute corporate strategic planning goals and meet reasonable deadlines.
Position Profile
- Bachelor's degree in construction management preferred; or a degree in a related field such as finance, engineering or business plus 1-5 years' experience in the field of estimating in the construction industry.
Knowledge & Experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels, both internally and externally.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Able to perform duties independently.
- Strong attention to detail.
Competencies
Computer Competencies
- The Estimator shall demonstrate proficiency in basic software programs deemed necessary to perform this job function. Currently, these include: Microsoft Excel and Word.
- The Estimator should have exposure to other software programs that are helpful for this position. Currently, these include: Bluebeam.
Basic Estimating Competencies
- The Estimator shall have exposure to some basic estimating skills deemed necessary to perform this job function, including: Read & Understand Plans.
