Award winning regional CPA firm in the Hudson Valley has an opening for a Trust & Estates Accountant.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review estate and trust fiduciary accountings
Prepare and review related filings, planning and analysis for all fiduciary accountings and returns
Ability to prepare and review fiduciary income tax returns, gift tax returns, federal and state estate tax returns, and private foundations
Ability to review fiduciary accountings, lead fiduciary accounting services team and coordinate with fiduciaries, attorneys, surrogate court accounting clerks and Attorney General counsel
Computing and reviewing commissions and calculating unitrust and annuity payments
Coordinating distributions to various trust beneficiaries and arranging for payment of estimated taxes
Maintenance of accounts and records for various estates and trusts
General trust and estate administration, including record keeping, monitoring filing deadlines, and client communication
Oversee the accounting aspects of a trust or estate intermediate or final settlement
Recommend form of accounting in terminating trusts in partnership with Settlement Officer
Gather relevant accounting materials for the outside preparation of judicial and non-judicial accountings, including full, principal only or abbreviated accountings
Interpret the governing trust instrument and conduct review of accountings to confirm account was funded correctly and that all items were allocated correctly between income and principal during the life of the account
Review and/or prepare computations of trustee’s commissions in terminating trusts
Prepare abbreviated and/or cash statement accountings on a limited basis, as requested
Participate in Quality Control reviews of accountings being filed with a court or governmental agency
Provide expert analysis of our acts as trustee or executor on particular matters including, but not limited to, account fundings, receipts and disbursements, or investment performance
Qualifications
Advanced degree in tax, law, or accounting and/or CPA license
Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a CPA firm
Must demonstrate strong problem‐solving skills, a highly organized approach, and attention to detail
Exceptional client service and outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to lead by example and to work effectively in a team environment
Proficient computer ability relative to administrative programs, spreadsheets, tax preparation software, trial balance software, time entry, word processing, and internet research.
Knowledge of professional pronouncements such as FAS, SAS, GAAS, and GAAP.
Understanding of the general ledger accounting structure.
Ability to analyze and reconcile accounting data.
Accurate, organized, and timely work habits.
