About the Team

We believe the only way to predict the future is to build it. Creating solutions to lead our company and our industry is what we do -- on every project, every day. We're not afraid to dig in and uncover the truth, even if it's scary or inconvenient. We have a Bias for Action and Operate at the Lowest Level of Detail. In Fraud Operations, we are constantly looking for ways to minimize and prevent fraudulent activity on the platform. Through continuous improvement and operational excellence, our Fraud Strategy and Operations team protects the business and our customers from bad actors.

About the Role

The Fraud team is looking for a Fraud Operations Specialist to reduce the cost of fraud and identify new vectors of abuse across the DoorDash Platform. As a Fraud Operations Specialist at DoorDash, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of our platform and user experience by proactively detecting, preventing, and mitigating fraudulent activities. In this dynamic and fast-paced position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to safeguard our users, partners, and company assets from various forms of fraud. You will grow familiar with our three audiences — Consumers, Dashers and Merchants, as you investigate fraudulent activity and collaborate with the team on solutions to reduce fraud in the long-term. Most importantly, you will help promote the delicate balance between providing our users the best experience possible while eliminating bad actors on the DoorDash platform.

At DoorDash, we believe in fostering a culture of meaningful connection, collaboration, and professional growth through in-office interactions. This position requires an in-office presence at the DoorDash corporate office in Tempe and the employee must live within a commutable 50 miles from the office. In-office days are determined by the business and can change based on business needs. Connect with the recruiter to determine what the in-office requirement for this role is.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Fraud Detection: Utilize advanced tools and technologies to monitor and identify potential fraudulent activities across the DoorDash platform. Analyze transactional data, user behavior patterns, and system-generated alerts to identify anomalies and potential risks.
  • Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations into suspicious activities, transactions, or accounts. Gather and analyze evidence, collaborate with internal and external partners, and make informed decisions to determine if fraudulent behavior is present. Critical thinking is required with comfort in coming to conclusions without minute to minute guidance.
  • Risk Mitigation: Take immediate and effective actions to prevent further fraudulent activities, such as freezing accounts, blocking transactions, or implementing additional security measures. Work closely with the risk management team to develop strategies that minimize financial losses and protect stakeholders.
  • Resourcefulness: Utilize department strategy, procedures, and KB resources to successfully mitigate fraud loss and operate fraud detection mechanisms. Identify trends, emerging patterns, and vulnerabilities to proactively adjust strategies.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and refine existing fraud detection and prevention processes via constructive feedback. Propose innovative ideas and solutions to enhance operational efficiency and stay ahead of evolving fraud tactics.
  • Communication: Proficient with written and verbal communication. Clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and outcomes via case resolution notes, communication tools, and data collection avenues. Ability to proactively reach out via phone calls to Consumers, Dashers, or Merchants in order to verify pertinent info regarding deliveries, follow up to concerns, or needed documents for onboarding to the DoorDash platform.

We’re excited about you because…

  • 3 years of experience in technical or loss mitigation environments.
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent work streams, with an emphasis for details
  • Experience with being successful in a fast paced and ever-evolving environment.
  • Adept technical ability. You are comfortable navigating multiple screens, using multiple systems, and creating your own shortcuts
  • Prior use of data analysis, in an operations setting
  • Experience working in a fraud / risk department or similar
  • You’re collaborative and will quickly develop productive relationships within your team and internal stakeholders
  • You’re action-oriented, never letting great be the enemy of the good; you stay oriented to the goal you’re trying to achieve and act with urgency to achieve it, as time management skills is a must
  • Experience with providing coaching and feedback on topics, pull data and conduct analysis for others to leverage
  • You’re able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment while being able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously and pivot as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and/or Google Suite of products
  • You have experience with project management tools such as Jira, Asana, and Confluence
  • You're focused on quality, and output motivated and can dig into the lowest level of detail to understand what is driving a problem and summarize essential takeaways
  • You have strong problem-solving and analytical skills. You find the right balance of data and common sense to problem solve, and think creatively when we have incomplete information.
