What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staffing Technician position at Douglas County (NE)?
Incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Nursing/designee developing staffing schedules for the fulfillment of daily staffing needs while ensuring compliance with facility policies and procedures, extant labor agreements, and the policies and procedures of the Civil Service Commission.
- Develop and post work schedules in accordance with applicable policies/procedures, budgetary guidelines and labor agreements.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, other agencies and the public.
- Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, Health Center policies and procedures, County policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality environment.
- Use software to prepare planning sheets and schedules ensuring staffing guidelines are achieved.
- Post staffing needs in compliance with established policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Monitor adherence to staffing schedules and modify schedules ensuring adequate staff are available.
- Review daily staffing requirements and facilitate unit coverage, monitor last minute changes and staffing demands, and pursue corrective action.
- Contact nursing staff once schedule is posted and staff needs established; record exchanges of hours.
- Notify superiors of critical staffing levels.
- Utilize nursing agencies when other options are exhausted.
- Complete reports for payroll, and provide up-to-date information on employee hours.
- Update system tracking schedules, vacation requests, sick leave, absenteeism, and payroll information.
- Attend Health Center orientation classes and present information to new nursing staff regarding staffing/scheduling policies and procedures.
- Schedule designated nursing staff for continuing education and in-service training as required.
- Review sign-in sheets for agency staff, ensure sheets are complete, and forward information to Fiscal Services.
- Answer and respond to telephone calls, and escalate calls for problem resolution.
- Observe/adhere to emergency/safety policies/procedures, and promptly report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Immediately report any suspicions/allegations of patient/resident abuse/neglect to supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality of department information.
- Assist with quality improvement activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) year of clerical experience required.
- Ability to type twenty-five (25) net words per minute required.
- Experience in scheduling healthcare staff preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software preferred.
- Completion of a pre-employment criminal background check and post-offer drug screen and medical review.
- Completion of an annual health review.

Visual abilities correctable to normal ranges include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbents must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment to perform the essential functions.
