Job Title: Buyer

Location: Sylmar, CA.


What we’re looking for:


We are looking for a Buyer, Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO) who will be responsible for purchasing maintenance materials and repair services from suppliers, while considering cost effectiveness, quality and urgency. Additional responsibilities involve analysis of market trends, the selection of suppliers and the expedition of shipments and deliveries.


What you’ll be responsible for in this role:


  • Purchase requested material and services via authorized purchase requisitions through ORACLE
  • Outsource and bid commodities (production materials when needed) and services to insure current market cost and lead times.
  • Consolidate purchases with a select number of industrial suppliers in effort to reduce cost.
  • Work closely with maintenance, engineering, facility and department leads for requested materials or services.
  • Manage all Capital Expenditure purchases
  • Manage VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) Supplier
  • Participate in physical inventory activities including scheduling of Food Truck, Weigh Scales, Scissor Lifts, etc.
  • Rectify all accounting price and receiving discrepancies.
  • Review MRP reports to insure proper purchase amounts and to schedule delivery dates.
  • Responsible for all Tool Crib items
  • Handle all rejected material purchases to insure timely return to the vendor or to obtain credit
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and be able to work with two systems AS400 and ORACLE


What are the basic qualifications?


  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in Supply Chain
  • Requires 5-7 years’ experience in procurement/planning in manufacturing environment.


What are the preferred qualifications?


  • Preferred Professional Certification such as APICS, CPM, CPIM, CPP, and CPSM.

  • Strong background in negotiations aimed at reduction of overall cost
  • Experience in Pull system contracting, Supplier agreements, VMI programs, and Vendor relations management
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization including the hourly workforce, first line supervision, senior management, as well as vendors.
  • Understanding and support of company policies and procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, agreements, and procedure manuals as well as speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills; solid analytical ability.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge/proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MRP)
