The Opportunity: We are accepting applications for a Seasonal Natural Resources team member. With 48 parks, 2 high profile Natural Areas – Lyman Woods and Belmont Prairie and numerous smaller naturalized areas in park settings, the District is seeking an enthusiastic individual to help maintain and improve our resources. The successful candidate is someone who wants to put their educational curriculum and background to work and gain valuable field experience in Natural Areas restoration and maintenance. Reporting to and being mentored by the Superintendent of Parks (SP), this employee will gain skills which will help them support the viability and sustainability of the native landscape.
When You Will Work: Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Some weekend duties are required and are assigned on a rotating basis, ask for more information.
What you get: The hourly pay rate starts at $16.00. The District is flexible with start and end times for school purposes. Successful applicants can receive a Free fitness membership at 4500 Fitness, while employed.
A Typical Day in the Life:
Primary Natural Resource responsibilities include: Invasive plant management, trail maintenance, stream and pond maintenance and monitoring, planting landscape materials and assisting the SP with planning and evaluation of management areas.
Performs skilled labor in conjunction with maintenance and construction at District parks and facilities including landscaping, open space, trails and other areas.
Uses District owned vehicles and equipment to perform landscape maintenance and repairs.
Operates small power equipment and hand tools.
Follows District safety rules and procedures. PPE will be provided by the District.
Assist with on-going park maintenance activities and special events
Other duties as assigned (job may be changed as necessary).
About You:
Able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Familiarity with small engines, mowers, and power tools preferred.
Possess an Illinois Driver’s License, or equivalent.
Ability to acquire a State of Illinois, DOA, public operator pesticide license is encouraged.
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
One to two years of experience in Natural Resource Management required, or equivalent educational background.
Appropriate clothing and steel toe boots are required for this position and not supplied by the Downers Grove Park District.
