What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Teacher & Curriculum Development position at Doxa Church?
SUMMARY: The person in this leadership role will direct curriculum, teacher selection and training, and oversee the Upper School of Eden Academy.
REPORTS TO: Head of School
STATUS: Full Time, salary
HOURS: 40 hrs/week
QUALIFICATIONS: This person must be spiritually mature, humble, loyal, trustworthy, capable, flexible, detail-oriented, able to hold confidences, and have a servant’s heart. In addition, this individual must be able to comprehend and implement the vision and initiatives of Eden Academy within their sphere of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Teacher Development
- Oversee the recruiting, hiring, new teacher training, and ongoing teacher development at Eden.
- Review all Teacher applications and determine which applicants merit interviews
- Conduct teacher interviews in conjunction with Head of School (HOS) and other relevant leadership
- Plan and execute regular Professional Development meetings alongside the HOS
- Set up parameters to define excellence in teaching, and ensure teachers are being coached toward excellence in classical education pedagogy
- Design strategies amongst teachers for integration of classical education across all subjects
- Conduct annual in-class reviews of upper level teachers, and support Grammer Lead(s) in conducting annual in-class reviews
- In conjunction with Eden Leadership, determine which teachers will be retained and which will be removed
Curriculum Development
- Develop and propose a comprehensive Curriculum for Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.
- Review and improve Eden Curriculum Map annually
- Ensure continuity and alignment of Eden’s Curriculum Map with Eden’s mission, vision, and values
- Partner with Leads and Teachers in updating specific curriculum books
- Oversee the multi-year process of becoming accredited by the ACCS.
Miscellaneous
- The person in this position will operate as the Upper School Lead, overseeing and supporting Logic & Rhetoric Teachers
- Teach at least 2 classes, depending on available time and which classes need to be filled.
- Design and conduct parent seminars to train parents in educating their child(ren) in the pedagogical methods of CCE (format and frequency TBD)
- Assist the HOS in developing and implementing Eden’s approach to grading across all levels
- Develop and maintain relationships with other classical learning institutions for professional development
