Our Company culture will make you feel right at home.A Brief OverviewThe Plant Engineer provides mechanical engineering and ASME expertise for the CHPP staff; and aids the CHPP Plant Manager and his staff in understanding the engineering aspects of plant operations and maintenance.
Responsibilities
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
Responsible for conducting engineering related work for various systems at DU facilities.
Build equipment strategies and identify risk equipment as part of a good asset management practices.
Conduct process related evaluations to determine the proficiency of the systems and determine if systems are performing at expected efficiencies.
Design O&M projects, aid the CHPP Superintendent and the Capital Programs Manager in developing projects for the 5 YR Capital Plan, help develop preliminary budgets for such projects, and help set the priority of such projects, and help set the priority of such projects.
Manage certain projects constructed in the CHPP.
Aid the CHPP Superintendent, Maintenance Supervisor, Operations Supervisor and Maintenance Leads with troubleshooting of problem systems and aid the CHPP staff in proper scheduling of work.
Perform engineering calculations to determine steam, water, and air flows as they relate to equipment and processes of the CHPP.
Assist in review.
Perform root cause failure analysis after equipment related events and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
Review and propose DU Standards’ updates, especially for the Heat Distribution System.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a working knowledge of the mechanical systems of coal fired power plants.
Must have a working knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
Must be adept at writing and understanding written communications.
Must be able to analyze plant systems and their operations and make suggestions to increase system efficiencies.
Must demonstrate initiative and be able to work with little supervision.
ENVIRONMENT: Works primarily indoors in an office environment. The employee is subject to exposure to abnormal heat hazards or ash and coal dust part of the time. When out in the plant the work environment is typically a noise hazard area requiring the use of hearing protection. Required to properly wear and use safety equipment as directed, including hearing protection, respirators, coveralls, hard hats, safety glasses and safety shoes. Frequently works alone with little direct supervision.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be physically fit enough to use ladders, climb stairs, work from high spaces, enter confined spaces, and able to work in temperature extremes from -60F to 140F.
The incumbent is subject to pre-hire and random drug testing in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska.
Must have a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska.
Must be willing to complete an approved confined space entry class.
Must be available to respond during non-working hours to emergencies at the CHPP.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline; mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred. Required
- 5 years experience working as a Plant Engineer in a power producing facility, preferably a coal fired plant. Required
- Must have a working knowledge of the mechanical systems of coal fired power plants.
- Must have a working knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
- Must be adept at writing and understanding written communications.
- Must be able to analyze plant systems and their operations and make suggestions to increase system efficiencies.
- Must demonstrate initiative and be able to work with little supervision.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License Mechanical or Electrical registered in the State of Alaska. Preferred
