  • JOB SUMMARY:** The Assistant Controller oversees the internal controls, monthly close, and daily activities of the accounting department and plays a key role in financial reporting and audits.
  • \*\*This position can be filled in either Fairbanks, AK or Anchorage, AK\*\***

Responsibilities

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

  • Develop, update, and ensure adequacy of internal controls and procedures
  • Ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the financial records
  • Review and analyze monthly financial statements
  • Assist with audits and the preparation of the resulting consolidated and Section 7(i) financial statements and annual reports
  • Develop and maintain company-wide chart of accounts, ensuring integrity between various software programs used by the department and company subsidiaries
  • Research and conclude on moderately complex accounting topics
  • Responsible for the oversight of distributions to shareholders
  • Review or prepare required Internal Revenue Service (IRS) forms and reports
  • Supervise the general ledger accounting and the monthly financial close
  • May periodically supervise employees
  • Conduct special projects and assignments
  • Periodic overnight and out-of-town travel is required
  • This is an exempt management-level position, and working hours may exceed 40 hours per week

Qualifications

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Five (5) years of experience in accounting
  • Accounting experience in a corporate environment
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and application
  • Knowledge of accounting systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public accounting experience
  • CPA license is strongly preferred
