Job Title: Controller
Reports to: CEO
FLSA Classification/ Position Status: *Exempt / Full Time / At-Will*Exempt: An individual is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) because he or she is classified as an executive, professional, administrative, or outside sales employee and meets the specific criteria for the exemption.

Starting Salary Range: $70,000 to $75,000 Salary will be commensurate with education, licenses, certifications, and relevant work experience.

Summary/ObjectiveThe Dr Pepper Museum seeks a detail-oriented, skilled, and dedicated finance professional to manage the financial operations of a thriving and growing company comprised of three legal entities and 50 employees. This position oversees all aspects of the Museum’s finance department and accounting operations, including daily accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Controller position reports to and provides direct support and assistance to the President & CEO and Associate Director. This individual ensures that the Museum’s internal operations run smoothly, accurately, and on budget. The candidate needs excellent communication skills with team members and is an expert on current financial topics related to our industry. The candidate must be able to exercise independent judgment and carry out agreed-upon company directives. This position is full-time and qualifies for benefits.

Required Education, Licenses, Certifications & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • An advanced graduate degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • Advanced accounting certifications are preferred.
  • Proven experience managing payroll for a company of 25 or more employees.
  • Must be able to develop and make oral and written presentations to small or large groups with confidence
  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Maintain a high degree of independence by advocating in the best interest of the museum
  • Out-of-state payroll tax experience is preferred.
  • Must be proficient with accounting software; QuickBooks and Sage are preferred.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel functionality is required.
  • Must be proficient with online banking and payment gateway software required.
  • Experience working with point-of-sale platforms. Experience with Square preferred.
  • Should have the ability to operate a 10-key calculator and other related office equipment.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional focus on detail, particularly concerning numerical precision, is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of accounting experience is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of employee management experience is preferred.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and train Staff Accountant in performing or delegating any or all the duties listed below.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts, adding or modifying accounts consistently as necessary across 3 (three) legal entities.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts to the general ledger and perform reconciling journal entries.
  • Oversee and review the accounts payable function and ensure accurate input and coding of all transactions.
  • Balance and minimize intercompany accounts monthly.
  • Post monthly and yearly financial closing general journal entries.
  • Review inventory costing and oversee the process of physical counts at year-end with related adjusting journal entries.
  • Oversee and manage the efficient and accurate administration of the in-house payroll process.
  • Prepare accurate quarterly finance statements and related reports for the President, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Provide accurate financial reports for foundation and grant reporting.
  • Assess risk, document, and test the company’s system of internal controls.
  • Oversee, train, and administer the company’s budgeting process with related departmental reporting to senior managers.
  • Manage the external year-end audit as the company’s liaison to auditors for collecting and interpreting information requested during the audit.
  • Manage the year-end tax return preparation as liaison to tax accountants for collecting and interpreting information requested during the engagement.
  • Develop and maintain all bookkeeping and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative duties as necessary.
  • Cash flow analysis is needed to manage all Museum payment obligations.
  • Analyze strengths and weaknesses to propose corrective action plans and prepare accurate forecasts for management decision-making.
  • Maintain job training to perform all required duties and maintain any professional license.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Working with the HR Manager to ensure accurate processing of employee benefits information with 3 party benefits administrator.
  • Presents the Museum's financial performance in alignment with the goals and objectives set forth by the Finance Committee and the President/CEO.
  • Constant communication with all other senior staff and department managers.
  • Coordination with year-end auditors, tax accountants, attorneys, other external professional consultants, and outside vendors as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

The Controller role requires working effectively in a moderate to fast-paced office environment. The physical demands described here represent those that the Controller must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The employee frequently sits and/or stands. The employee may occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee will frequently use electronic devices, including but not limited to desktop and laptop computers, printers, scanners, and other typical office equipment. Frequent typing is required; therefore, the employee will constantly use their fingers, hands, wrist, elbow, and any necessary upper extremities. Employees may occasionally have to twist, pull, or stretch. The employee will frequently read print or computer material with various text sizes and colors. The employee must view and analyze data, images, pictures, charts, and graphics. Specific vision abilities may require close, distance, and color vision, with or without using prescribed or over-the-counter optical glasses, contact lenses, or other visual aids. The Controller will occasionally travel within and outside the city limits and may be exposed to various (fair to extreme) weather conditions.
