Primary Functions
The Dean of Students is responsible for assisting and supporting the Director of Culture & Counseling with implementing the norms of conduct as they relate to the safety, behavior, and discipline of the
students.
Essential Functions and Accountabilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Culture & Counseling, the Dean of Students:
I. Culture & Community
● Assists in the safety and well-being of the students
● Maintain and monitor safety and order by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, during
arrival/dismissal of students, lunch periods, after-school programs, Reflection Lab, detention, etc.
● Work closely together to ensure consistency and discipline across the school
● Meet with Director of Culture & Counseling to discuss school-wide issues, trends, and upcoming events
● Follow the guidelines presented in the Dr. Izquierdo Charter Schools Scholar Handbook
● Ensure a high achievement culture
● Maintain databases and up to date student information on attendance, discipline, and records
● Model and promote positive discipline behavior
● Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practices
II. Education
● Facilitate advisory to scholars
● Creating grade-appropriate, application-oriented, advisory curriculum
● Plan, prepare and facilitate advisory lesson plans under the supervision of the Director of Culture & Counseling
● Attending grade team meetings as needed, based on scholar behavioral trends and academic needs
● Analyze school-wide data to design responsive student interventions.
● Complete any other tasks or duties as assigned by Head of School, Director of Culture & Counseling, and the
Leadership Team

Required Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Hold a NYS Teaching Certification
● Minimum of two to three years of related experience
Preferred Education and Experience
● Mental Health Certification
● Licensed Master Social Worker
● Licensed Clinical Social Worker
● Therapeutic Crisis Interventionist
● Bilingual/Spanish a plus
● Minimum of two to three years of related experience working in an urban school
● Successful experience working in a diverse educational setting
● Successful experience in communicating with parents and students
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities

● Participate in training and presentations about various pedagogical competencies

● Provide a positive environment in which students are actively engaged in the learning process to communicate
effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other professors
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen. This position is
very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all
day. This job & specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time, and the hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm unless
the school will host a school event in which staff is expected to stay and or the school is running any afterschool
activities.
Travel
Limited to no travel required
