JOB PURPOSE: The Manager, Software Engineering, leads the analysis, design, and delivery of DRB Systems products and services. Product robustness and quality, support escalation resolution, product innovation, process innovation, and staff growth, are all metrics for this position’s qualification and quarterly evaluations. This position has direct reporting responsibility for the engineering team, including appropriate assignments (core and stretch), evaluation of deliverables (timeliness, quality, maintainability), and evaluation of collaborative work behavior. This position is intended to provide product development staff with leadership, direction, and accountability

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the development, communication, and delivery of comprehensive solutions using Agile methodologies.


  • Provides support and technical oversight for the design and implementation of multiple complex projects or products.


  • Accountable for creating work estimates, project schedules, and assessing project risks following Agile guidelines.


  • Ensures that products meet scalability, usability, security, business needs and other requirements.


  • Accountable for architecture of products.


  • Leads the adoption of best-in-class software engineering practices, tools and frameworks.


  • Participates in patent filing under the direction of legal counsel.


  • Maintains awareness of technology trends, benefits and how businesses are implementing them.


  • Maintains awareness of market trends, unmet customer and consumer needs and how technology can be used to create a competitive advantage.


  • Maintains understanding of regulatory requirements in POS and direct to consumer markets with the help of the payments team.


  • Monitors programmer deliverables for code quality and adherence to styles and standards.


  • Evaluates development processes for improvements.


  • Leads multiple teams of developers.


  • Executes the vision of the company, department and team within a team scope.


  • Coordinates efforts across multiple development teams to ensure solutions are delivered on time and minimize integration risks.


  • Contributes to and ensures the DRB's SDLC, NPI and other processes are followed.


  • Creates, updates, and adopts KPIs for managing team and communicating to stakeholders.


  • Develops and communicates goals, timelines, and performance metrics to enable DRB's goals and OKRs.


  • Partners with stakeholders in other areas to identify needs, trends, and priorities.


  • Collaborates with business stakeholders regularly to ensure alignment on resource utilization and goals, and that key decisions, assignments, and dependencies are clearly articulated and understood.


  • Develops, directs, coordinates and evaluates the development team by providing guidance, coaching, and feedback through one on ones.


  • Considers the business needs to justify and maintain balance between contracted engineering resources (on-shore and off-shore) and the need to employ in-house FTE engineering resources.




SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages staff of Software Developers of varying levels, with varying technical and product focus. This staff may be comprised of employees and/or contracted resources (on-shore and/or off-shore).

The position works under general direction of the Support and Service Manager, exercising discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance in the department.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.


  • Minimum 11 years experience in application design and development with a minimum of 5 years leading comprehensive projects, systems, or solutions.


  • 5 years of experience leading software engineers.


  • Experience managing DevOps, Scrum, or Kanban agile models.


  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams of developers.


  • Outstanding communication, leadership and interpersonal skills with experience working across business units and at multiple organization levels.


  • Ability to establish and articulate team goals and priorities.


  • Successful track record of leading and motivating staff.


  • Understanding of full stack web architecture and ability to coach engineers on design, development, and debugging in this environment.


  • REST and other web API design and implementation.


  • Knowledge of software architecture including experience with data modeling, database design, performance profiling, and unit testing.


  • Experience in Windows OS/Server, version control software (knowledge of Azure DevOps & Git a plus), change control software, Microsoft Office.


Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with developing applications for cloud-based solutions hosted at AWS/Azure.


  • Understanding of POS/payment terminals device/peripherals and systems integration aspects.
  • Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems and Devices, EMV, NFC, Apple Pay, Google Pay Send, and credit card payment processing.


  • Familiarity with Solutions for monthly plans using recurring credit card charges and automatically update credit cards for recurring plans.


  • Experience in architecture, design, security and cryptography, POS PCI Compliance.


  • Certifications (MCPD, MCSD, MCSE, MCDBA) preferred.


  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
