ROLE OVERVIEW
The Business Manager oversees all finance and operational functions necessary to run a
high-performing charter school across multiple campuses in the Kapolei area. This
includes budgeting, purchasing, facilities, technology, regulatory compliance, and
human resource administration. The Business Manager serves as a key member of the
school’s Leadership Team, ensures that the school’s operations meet high standards of
operational excellence, and enables instructional leaders and staff to focus on driving
strong student achievement outcomes

They will be able to work independently with little or no direct guidance; this person is
entrepreneurial and independently capable and motivated. They are well organized,
flexible, and enjoy the administrative challenges of supporting a diverse group of
individuals.
This role is coached, supported, and managed by the Chief Education Officer (CEO)

OBJECTIVES
  • Collaborate with Leadership team and Operations Specialist in development of
performance goals and long-term operational plans;
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through process analysis and
interdepartmental collaboration;
  • Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity;
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance recommending
solutions for improvement when necessary;
  • Ensure financial health through consistent monitoring and analysis of financial
trends and markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL
  • Build and maintain relationships with all DreamHouse stakeholders;
  • Develops and works closely with the Chief Education Officer in the school’s
strategic and annual planning and budgeting process.
  • Participates in recommending measures to finance long-range program plans
  • Actively manages the school budget throughout the year ensuring little to no
variance between budget and actual expenditures
  • Managing financial operations which include, bank reconciliation, quickbook
management, grant management, and audits;
  • Prepare financial reports and updates to governing school board, charter
commission, funders, and staff
  • Prepares forecasts of operating revenues and expenditures
  • Coordinates capital improvement budgeting activities
  • Assists in the development of contracts and grants
  • Directs the internal audit of fiscal and related transactions
  • Manages the school purchasing process by establishing clear systems for staff to
request items, placing orders with vendors, tracking delivery, and coding and
submitting purchases orders, invoices, and reimbursement request
  • Serves as the first school-based point of contact regarding finance with charter
commission to ensure financial compliance and reporting
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations specialist to ensure proper
procurement solicitations and purchases that are allowable, reasonable, and
allocable .

HUMAN RESOURCES
  • Oversee HR tasks including but not limited to payroll overviews, onboarding,
and developing strategies to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and
productive environment
  • Partners with Charter Commission and district HR on new hire processes which
include onboarding paperwork, benefits information, and payroll processes.
  • Ensures that school staff have complete, current, and accurate employee files
and certifications; all personnel have background checks on file; and school
complies with all areas of legal compliance
  • Completes the exit process for terminating employees with district human
resources team on any action items surrounding the exit logistics.
  • Reviews employee leave to ensure accuracy and assesses leave trends

MANAGEMENT
  • Manages Operations Specialist and duties that align with the role which
includes: procurement, technology management and distribution, safety
planning and implementation, and facility management

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Position is a 12-Month role aligned to HGEA Bargaining Unit 13;
  • Salary is aligned to BU-13 and commensurate with experience;
  • Health coverage and retirement options provided as a State of Hawai‘i
employee.
