The Role
Join our innovative tech team as a Senior Software Engineer responsible for building scalable, maintainable, and highly available systems for the DRINKS' app and extensions within the Shopify ecosystem and our groundbreaking 4th-tier merchant solutions. You'll play a pivotal role in delivering the products and features to empower non-alcohol licensed merchants to seamlessly participate in online alcohol sales. This position is a unique opportunity to transform an industry, bridging the gap between traditional alcohol sales and modern e-commerce. This role is rooted at the intersection of e-commerce, regulatory and compliance tech (RegTech), Shopify ecosystem and the DRINKS Wine-as-a Service (WaaS) suite. This position is a regular, full-time, exempt position. DRINKS is home-based in Los Angeles; however, we are now a remote-first company.
What You’ll do
- Lead technical decision making and architecture of the DRINKS’ app expansion within the Shopify platform and beyond
- Architect and implement highly available distributed systems
- Mentor other engineers in their technical and architectural decision making
- Strategize and execute the development of our 4th-tier merchant solutions
- Leverage and extend the DRINKS Data and AI (PAIR) solutions into the product feature set across the portfolio
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams including but not limited to Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, and Risk Control
- Understand and design solutions tailored to merchant operations, backed by in-depth market research and data analysis
- Write, review, and maintain code primary in Ruby and JavaScript
About You
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of engineering experience
- 3 years of engineering architect experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Proven Staff Engineer experience in e-commerce, especially with platforms like Shopify
- Deep experience with e-commerce/marketplace best practices including optimizing user journeys through the funnel, cart & checkout functionality, payment rails, order management, fulfillment systems and detailed instrumentation and metric driven development
- Demonstrable leadership qualities and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams
- Highly analytical, with strong problem-solving abilities
Nice to Haves and/or Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the alcohol or other regulated industry
- Experience in SaaS, Marketplace and/or B2B platforms
- Experience in Data, ML and/or AI integrated into product features
- Knowledge or prior work with digital transformation in traditional industries
- Prior exposure to global corporation work environments
Primary Location: Los Angeles, CA
Primary Location Compensation Range: $135,000 - 195,000/yr.
