General Purpose of Job:

A registered nurse who is responsible and accountable for the development and the implementation of nursing standards of care for pediatric trauma patients. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Nursing Leadership to develop and implement trauma care protocols following ACS guidelines. Clinical activities include: hospital staff and public education, quality improvement, trauma registry, and administrative responsibilities. The coordinator supports the day-today operation of Driscoll Children's Hospital vision of excellent and integrated patient care delivery; engenders and participates in collaborative decision-making; ensures compliance with established standards; and contributes to creating an environment that fosters patient advocacy and competence.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Develops trauma protocols and standards of trauma care as it applies to pediatric trauma.
  • Participates in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the trauma program.
  • Participates in process improvement activities that facilitate continuous quality improvement as measured by trauma service outcomes.
  • Coordinates nursing care aspect of the trauma program with nurse managers.
  • Functions as a liaison with all service physicians and ancillary services on a day-to-day basis.
  • Identifies performance issues and participates in the performance evaluation and competency assessment processes as directed by Sr. Director.
  • Prioritizes, evaluates, and communicates to adjust to rapidly changing condition by using critical thinking skills.
  • Periodic review of the plan of care for trauma patients to ensure that trauma protocols are initiated and followed.
  • Assists staff in problem solving related to the care of trauma patients.
  • Participates in hospital with trauma education.
  • Co-chairs Hospital Trauma Committee with Trauma Medical Director.
  • Coordinates trauma care conference and case reviews.
  • Oversees development of, and maintenance of trauma registry.
  • Collects and analyzes trauma date, and distributes report to appropriate team members, administrators, and the State Trauma Registry.
  • Supervises initial trauma skills and verifies knowledge of nursing staff for annual review.
  • Participation in the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) for the trauma service area by attending all meetings; organizing and facilitating the hospital’s involvement in the RAC.
  • Participates in community education programs relating to trauma prevention and safety.
  • Assist with nursing audit on records of trauma patients.
  • Collects pertinent data (according to TDH reporting guidelines) on all major trauma patients.
  • Electronically enters date into registry, and transmits to Austin as required.
  • Provides information and reports to Quality Department as required.
  • Performs concurrent review of trauma patients to identify potential medical and nursing quality issues for patient care.
  • Functions as a resource in area of expertise.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in from a four-year college or university; or Associate Degree with related experience and/or training.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Registration and current licensure in the State of Texas required.
  • Demonstrates critical care knowledge
  • Familiarity with trauma registry preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Licensed in State of Texas as an RN
  • PALS Certified
  • Certification in specialty preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,205.88 - $68,000.00 per year
