Position Overview – SOLAR O&M / QC TECHNICIAN
The Solar Technician position is primarily responsible for providing support to multiple PV plant sites located within the Carolinas on a continual/on-demand basis, in order to troubleshoot/resolve equipment issues (such as emergency repairs) as well as providing O&M support. The position is also responsible for training new Solar Techs, leading initiatives, coordinating and communicating with customers, scheduling work, conducting maintenance, equipment installations and overall operational support. Extensive travel within the region shall be expected. Specified position duties and expectations include:
- Installation, removal and maintenance of solar modules and other related electrical equipment.
- Diagnose/troubleshoot equipment failures and perform annual maintenance on a variety of electrical equipment.
- Diagnose and repair system failures at existing solar sites and identify potential issues that may impact production in the future.
- Support and develop real-time solutions to daily site operational issues, with minimal to no supervisory input.
- Develop plans, maintenance schedules and communicate with various groups.
- Qualifying of equipment and systems.
- Document work performed and report in a clear and concise manner.
- Prepare service reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications and equipment improvement investigations.
- Communicate with Customers, Site Technicians, Engineering, Project Management and Management to ensure timely and efficient resolution to all site maintenance activities.
- Execute design change requirements and equipment modifications.
- Ensure a safe, event free work environment by ensuring strict adherence to company protocols, safety procedures and regulations.
- Provide leadership and accountability in order to achieve desired safety results (Lock Out/Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, contractor oversight, safety policies/procedures, work practices, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with all operational, environmental and other regulatory and policy compliance requirements. Monitor station’s environmental, health and safety objectives and ensures they are met. Audit site processes for compliance assurance.
- Apply problem-solving skills to identifying and resolving issues at hand.
- Identify, qualify, coordinate and oversee sub-contractors on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate shall have prior experience within the photovoltaic industry or equivalent job-related experience. Additional beneficially-attained qualifications include:
- Utility Scale solar work experience
- Any inverter manufacturer certifications
- IT/networking skills: i.e., IP addressing, familiarity with RS485, Modbus, tcp/ip
- NABCEP PV Installer certification
- 2-4 years verifiable electrical installation experience
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design/construction practices
- Clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures, minimum requirement of OSHA 10 certification
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams
- Prior experience with installation or maintenance of solar sites and/or utility distribution systems
- NC electrical contractor’s license
- Completion of course(s) covering all aspects of NFPA 70E
Requirements
- Willingness to travel 75% of time
- Pass Background, Drug Test and clean MVR driving record
- Must be able to lift 55 pounds regularly unassisted and up to 75lbs occasionally
