What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Supervisor position at DS Smith Reading Packaging?
Role Overview:
The purpose of the Shipping Supervisor to train shipping department personnel in roles and responsibilities regarding logistics strategies. Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, training, and safety records. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evolution of the Shipping Department. Plans, assigns, and directs work.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead and direct the Shipping Crew.
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
- Compile and send daily load reports.
- Reconcile movement report vs. actual work for drivers.
- Ensure all employees are adhering to Standard Operating Procedures
- Provides loading and unloading directions for trailers.
- Set up incoming/outgoing appointments.
- Monitors the effective operation of the Shipping Department.
- Monitor ASI for schedule changes that may affect Shipping Department.
- Coordinate returned product with Quality Department.
- Print orders, process, and schedule pickups for orders.
- All individuals assigned are to work together in a safe, efficient, and effective manner to ensure the shipment of quality products.
- Ensure employees comply with all applicable plant, safety, and OSHA rules.
- Attend daily production meetings.
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualification & Experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Able to write routine reports, correspondence, procedures; communicate effectively with peers, vendors, customers or management
