Job Summary
To assure procurement activity results in optimum cost and quantity for establishing and maintaining the required level of quality materials and to support the accuracy, timeliness and cost effectiveness of manufacturing operations by performing the following duties:
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assures purchasing is completed from approved vendors and includes clear and complete specifications covering applicable attributes of material purchased.
2. Assures purchasing is completed through use of company formal and controlled Purchase Orders and processed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
3. Negotiates with vendors on pricing and delivery
4. Ensures questionable material received is returned to source in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable procedures.
5. Maintains on-going program to identify secondary and more reliability, quality, and cost effective sources for materials purchased.
6. Assures purchase costs are reasonable and accurately recorded and that receiving, inventory and shipping procedures are in harmony with needs of Accounting procedures and sound financial practices.
7. Notifies management of inventory errors for review and action.
8. Assures awareness of excess inventory conditions and materials requiring inordinately long lead times.
9. Improves knowledge of purchasing, inventory management and shipping procedures and practices.
10. Work with Production and Customer Service to coordinate Promise Dates for new Sales Orders.
11. Work with vendors to improve quality (address non-conformities), product flow (Kanbans when possible), minimum order quantities, price, and lead times
12. Recommends changes to buying controls, such as re-order points, stocking levels, and vendor selection
13. Maintains excellent records of all activities
14. Informs management of requested metrics.
15. Support Continuous Improvement projects, including projects focused on Lean, S5s, operational and equipment overall efficiency and productivity
16. Performs other related duties as assigned

Education/Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Prior business experience required
A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Buyer or a directly related positions
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift minimum 50 lbs.
