About The Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mapping and Surveying Project Manager to lead and oversee our geospatial and surveying operations across Southern California. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of advanced mapping techniques, sophisticated surveying methodologies, and exemplary project management acumen. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical proficiency, leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in managing large-scale, multifaceted projects.

About The Job

Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
- Project Leadership and Oversight: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex mapping and surveying projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, client expectations, and industry standards.
- Technical Expertise: Employ advanced GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), surveying equipment (e.g., GNSS, robotic total stations), and data analysis tools to perform high-precision geospatial analyses, topographic surveys, boundary delineations, and construction staking.
- Data Integration and Analysis: Oversee the integration of diverse geospatial datasets, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and drone surveying to enhance spatial data accuracy and project outcomes.
- Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous quality control protocols to ensure all deliverables meet or exceed industry benchmarks and client requirements. Conduct thorough reviews of spatial data, maps, and technical reports.
- Client and Stakeholder Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Serve as the primary point of contact for project inquiries, updates, and issue resolution.
- Resource and Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, resource allocation plans, and timelines. Optimize the use of personnel, equipment, and materials to achieve project goals within financial constraints.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental laws, land use policies, and professional surveying standards.
- Team Development and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to a diverse team of surveyors, GIS analysts, and field technicians. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address unforeseen challenges. Maintain comprehensive risk assessment documentation.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the fields of mapping, surveying, and geospatial sciences. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: Professional Land Surveyor’s License (PLS) in the state of California is preferred. Additional certifications in GIS or related disciplines are highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mapping, surveying, and project management, with a proven track record of managing large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D), and surveying instruments (e.g., GNSS, total stations, UAVs).
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex geospatial data, generate high-precision maps, and interpret survey results for decision-making purposes.
- Leadership and Communication: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Project Management: Advanced project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and resource optimization.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across Southern California. Valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Requirements
- Advanced Technologies: Experience with advanced remote sensing technologies, such as LiDAR, SAR, and multispectral imaging.
- Environmental Acumen: Knowledge of California's environmental regulations, permitting processes, and land use policies.
- Sustainability Focus: Commitment to incorporating sustainable practices into mapping and surveying projects.
Working Conditions:
- This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.
- This job requires working on a computer, sitting or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
- This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
