Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan out each day and communicate to the crew members what activities are to be accomplished.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Superintendent and Safety Manager as needed.
- Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in the construction activities.
- Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.
- Review and verify employee time sheets for accuracy before submitting to the timekeepers/Payroll.
- Analyze and resolve worker issues. If the problems are around harassment, work with Human Resources to develop a plan of action.
- Communicate with maintenance staff about maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.
- Relate to the public and to customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
- Follow daily Crew Lead procedures and protocols as set forth in orientations and training's.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in utility construction.
- An ability to mentor, train and manage employees.
- Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
- Strong ability to problem solve quickly and as needed.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work with variety of people and positions.
- A minimum of 3 5 years of related skill, knowledge and experience in heavy civil operations construction. Experience is preferred.
- Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
- An unwavering focus on safety.
- Willingness to travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Eastern Dakotas.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
- Travel is required.
