****This position can be hired at the Learner or Tech 1 level depending on experience****
Position Summary:
This is the first or entry craft level of the Line Tech hierarchy. A Line Technician Learner will assist a higher-level technician in activities associated substation construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rules.
Basic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements.
Basic understanding of the isolation of line equipment and grounding practices.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills.
Basic understanding of electrical drawings (line equipment schematics and power system drawings).
Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order.
Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activities.
Demonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devices.
Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting on a transmission class equipment.
Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment.
Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights and breadths.
Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat.
Ability to distinguish colors.

Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
This position is based out on North and South Carolina.
Specific Requirements
Must have a valid State Driver's License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver's License.
Ability to pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance.
Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test.
Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression.
