We are seeking a Nurse Clinician in Radiation Oncology located in Durham, NC to function as the central hub of the interdisciplinary CNS teams. Teams consist of physicians, advanced practice providers and nurse clinicians. Serves as a resource for all patient care and as a gatekeeper for all patient concerns. Coordinates care with the Brain Tumor Center, CNS Metastasis Program and other specialty providers throughout the Health System.
JOB DUTIES
Clinic Preparation
- Collaborate with administrative assistants and or scheduling to ensure new patient records are obtained.
- Review and summarize history, recent studies/procedures in current problem list.
- Abstract patient records to Maestro chart.
- Confirm films/studies/labs from referring providers have been obtained prior to clinic visit.
- Ensure return patients have necessary tests/labs and results available for return visit.
- Coordinate with staff to monitor clinic volumes.
- Review clinic templates regularly
- Ensure that Patients are scheduled with appropriate providers
- Solve potential scheduling problems
- Collaborate with staff and providers to ensure a workable clinic flow
During Clinic
Coordinate clinic flow-interface with front desk, clinic nurses, patient families and providers
Introduce ream-based approach model to patients
Redo blood pressures or delegate task, follow-up results, review trends and discuss with providers.
Orthostatic BP or delegate task, then follow-up results and communicate with provider
Present HPI, ROS and results of focused PE to MD and document in MAESTRO
Provide patient teaching before and after clinic visit
Function as resource for clinic nurses in clinic and clinic staff
Place orders through MAESTRO and pend for provider signature
The nurse that fills this position will also have responsibilities to complete formal paperwork. The candidate will also be involved in daily triage of the CNS patient population as well as medications oversite, and specific duties for follow-up care and research. This is not an exhaustive list of duties for this position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. State of North Carolina RN licensure is also required.
- Work requires three years of registered nursing (RN) experience.
- Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Ability to think proactively and respond professionally
- Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and all unlicensed assistive personnel
- Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process
- Knowledge of professional theory, practice and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others
- Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
- Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up
