Work Performed


Program Support


  • Work directly with, and report to, the Operations Manager, and the Directors of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DDEI) and Student Affairs (DSA) for the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, to coordinate and support program-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, student support, advising, peer affinity groups, and mentoring programs.
  • Liaise with, and support, the DDEI regarding cross-cultural interventions that align with the Division’s values and positively impact the Division’s culture and climate.
  • Supervise, and oversee the completion of work by, the DEISA Staff Specialist.
  • Serve on committees within the Division and University, especially opportunities to promote equity and inclusion in search, hiring, support, and admissions processes and practices.
  • Assist the DSA [who is the Student Disability Access Office (SDAO) liaison for DPT] with logistics related to student accommodations management.
  • Onboard, supervise, and support graduate assistant students (GAs) assigned to assist the DDEI and DSA in the planning and implementation of Division-wide initiatives.
  • Co-direct the design, planning, and implementation of various programs for the Division (including the Summer Discovery Program and High School ImpACT Program); Recommend changes in policies and procedures to improve program areas as needed.
  • Co-direct the planning and coordination of the Duke DPT Orientation week including scheduling, budgeting, strategic planning, assessment, and collaboration (including staff, GAs, and campus partners).
  • Assist, and participate with, other staff members having special project responsibilities with the coordination of activities designed to accomplish established objectives.

Student Support


  • Co-management with the DSA for class leadership elections, student advising, and student groups.
  • Forecast needs, support, and advise students in the identification of Division, School of Medicine, University, and community support resources on an individual basis; On-going advocacy for students to ensure the quality of their academic, social, and personal experience.
  • Collaborate with DPT Admissions to ensure a positive transition for students from applicant to matriculated student.
  • Facilitate student development and success through advising, mentorship, leadership development, problem-solving, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.

Data Management


  • Assist DDEI and DSA in developing, implementing, and managing assessment and evaluation tools to promote enhanced communication, growth and learning, and cross-cultural relationships.
  • Co-lead in the dissemination of metrics and reports that evaluate and communicate outcomes and impact related to DEI and student support efforts.
  • Co-direct and oversee data related to budgetary needs, student support needs, and course information.
  • Assist in the development and implement of program protocols, procedures, and operating policies for the DEI and Student Affairs offices in the DPT Division.

Education & Training


  • Assist DDEI and DSA in designing and implementing learning and developmental opportunities for faculty, staff, and students designed to increase the understanding, sensitivity, and respect for all cultural groups and communities.
  • Participate and assist in other department-sponsored training and learning initiatives, as driven by professional expertise.
  • Cultivate sustained campus partnerships and learning opportunities with Duke University Intercultural Centers and other professional programs.
  • Liaise with prospective students, applicants, University alumni, career counselors, and others seeking information on DEI and student support standards and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with the Duke University Office of Student Affairs, Office of Student Disability Access, and Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to promote ongoing learning, growth, and support initiatives for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with the DDEI in promoting the awareness and implementation of the latest best practices and evidence related to DEI education, community engagement, and leadership development.
  • Assist DDEI with DEI strategy and action-planning, including support of the DPT DEI Committee.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education: Bachelor’s degree.


Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience

Work requiresthree years of experience in a student advising or other OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE student services function.
