Occupational Summary



Housed within the Graduate Student Programs and Services (GSPS) team, the Pratt Master’s Student Services Officer will plan, coordinate and administer student-facing activities centrally for all Pratt master’s programs. They will develop, coordinate, and advise on policy related to assigned major programs and collaborate with broader Student Engagement and Support (SES) team within GSPS to deliver an exceptional and supportive master’s student experience.


Work Performed



In collaboration with the director of Student Engagement and Support, make operational and programmatic decisions that have a significant impact on the successful achievement of master’s program strategies and objectives; develop, coordinate, and advise staff regarding program policy and implementation.


Design or modify and deliver programs to help master’s students build essential skills, create community, participate in health and wellness activities, and engage with academic and personal resources. Manage these programs by monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative research techniques; investigate trends and recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness.



Provide strategic direction and oversight in the following areas:


  • Pratt Peers Student Support Network
  • Student health and wellbeing programs
  • SAB support (Student Advisory Board)
  • Student matriculation and onboarding (new student orientation)
  • Student program/event management
  • Alumni tracking and engagement
  • Social media account management
  • Graduation planning and implementation

  • Budget for, and coordinate master’s student events and other related programs; develop and coordinate new ideas and concepts for program themes, materials and resources to supplement, expand or replace existing program components.
  • Partner with SES team and broader GSPS team. Maintain liaison with other programs, offices and departments at Duke to coordinate program business and to accomplish program objectives; interface with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized.

Preferred Skills:


  • Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.
  • Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience


Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
