Position Overview

 

The District Manager is responsible for the sales, staffing, merchandising, communication, operations and profitability of the stores in her/his district. The DM will hire and onboard new store leaders and build bench strength within his/her district.  Stores within the district should feel the presence of the DM through ongoing visits, to assess/measure best in class service, selling skills of the store teams, operational efficiency and execution, and integrity of our 10 WELDS.  The District Manager will provide ongoing leadership training and coaching of Store Managers as well as Assistant Store Managers within the district. During store visits, the District Manager will provide guidance in relation to overall store standards, cleanliness, and “Crisp” merchandising, utilizing the Store Visit Summary as a tool for ongoing collaboration with Store Managers. Inspire stewardship of the Brand among all associates, and at all levels. The District Manager will ensure the efficient and timely execution of all New Store Openings within the district.

Position Details

What You'll Do:

 

Goals Achievement:

  • Demonstrate leadership abilities in driving KPI’s and Comp Sales metrics within district. Primary focus on Sales, AOV, UPT, Close Rate, and customer data acquisition.
  • Monitor and evaluate individual/store performance in the following areas: sales and expense budgets, shrink mitigation, customer engagement and any others designated by Senior leaders.
  • Implement and monitor action plans to ensure the achievement of Store and divisional goals.
  • Inspire a “Selling through Service and Experience” environment in stores.
  • Successfully integrate the in-store buying experience with our Omni Experience initiatives.

Sales Management/Customer Service/Selling Skills:

  • Ensure all employees in district are trained in company standards for appearance, performance and knowledge.
  • Remain abreast of competition in the market, always benchmarking Best in Class service, and driving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Coaching managers to effectively staff to maximize sales.
  • Monitor use of all customer service tools.
  • Inspire teams to achieve yearly sales growth through add on selling, key item focus, and appropriate merchandising.

Human Resources/Management Skills:

  • Effectively recruit, hire, train, and lead Store Managers, while maintaining an indirect responsibility for employees and other management personnel within district.
  • Ensure Managers schedule staff to meet payroll and productivity goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when dealing with customer or employee problems/complaints.
  • Maintain an acceptable turnover rate within district.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to Store Managers on a regular basis.
  • Assess the performance of Store Managers in district. Conduct performance appraisals and other Human Resources documentation in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Personnel records for all employees in their district are being sent in timely manner to HR partners.
  • Handle disciplinary situations, including termination, as necessary and within Company guidelines

Loss Prevention:

  • Supervise all policies and procedures regarding loss prevention, security, and ensure they are followed in district.
  • Maintain acceptable inventory shortage.
  • Understand and properly handle worker’s compensation and public liability situations/reports.
  • Ensure bank deposits are made by store management, as directed.
  • Ensure safety of employees by identifying dangerous situations, correcting and reporting them.

Merchandise Management/Visual Merchandising:

  • Ensure that all stores maintain merchandise presentation according to Visual Merchandising standards and current floor sets.
  • Understand and communicate merchandising and product opportunities to appropriate Business partners on a weekly, or as needed basis.
  • Assure inventory levels in all stores are appropriate to current sales trends and Market needs.
  • Recommend changes to store profiles when appropriate. 

Store Operations:

  • Complete all required or requested paperwork accurately, legibly and on a timely basis.
  • Ensure stores are executing all back room processes as per SOP.
  • Communicate the status of local competition and local business conditions as required. Keep Duluth Executive Team informed of any significant changes.
  • Ensure that payroll is maintained within approved budgets for district’s stores.
  • Monitor all other expenses for which managers are responsible within budgetary guidelines.
  • Cover for store manager in their absence.

Training:

  • Ensure all management staff has successfully completed the Store Management Training Program, the Management Skills Training Programs and Employee Training Programs.
  • Ensure new Store Managers are appropriately trained utilizing “sister stores”.
  • Communicate changes in store policies and procedures to managers within district and ensure that changes are implemented correctly. Personally follow all policies and procedures and sets a positive example for staff.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by senior management.

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. College preferred, but not required.
    • Equivalent work experience would be considered
  • Six plus years apparel retail experience, with a minimum of four years of management experience.
  • Multi-Unit experience
  • New store opening experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of business and organizational agility.

 

Environmental Factors:                                                                                           

  • Must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day.
  • Frequent reaching and bending and twisting – below waist and above shoulders.
  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand to finger motions and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lifting up to twenty pounds, occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds. Push/pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach and bend.
  • Work in temperatures ranging from 50 - 80 degrees – especially in our stock room areas.
  • Able to use common tools such as hammer, screw driver, and wrench for floor sets.
  • Use of a computer up to 60 % of the time throughout the day.

Compensation: $113,000 to $130,000/Year

 

Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, federal, state and local minimum wage requirements, etc.
