Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Aquatic Director shall be responsible for the planning, developing, coordinating, and implementation of the Aquatic Department. This position is responsible for seeing that all aquatic facilities are maintained in proper working order.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in recreation/physical education or equivalent preferred
· Current Lifeguard, CPR PRO, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration required
· Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
· Minimum of four years of experience in aquatic operations, management, and programming preferred
· Excellent human relation skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
· Effective oral and written skills are necessary, as well as the ability to make independent decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission, and goals of the Y
· Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within 6 months of employment
Essential Functions
· Plan, promote, direct, and deliver all aquatic programs for the YMCA including, but not exclusive of water exercise classes (Arthritis and Aqua Fusion), open swim, lap swim, swim parties, and lifeguard certifications. Ensure all programs within the job scope are of the highest quality and continue to meet the needs of the YMCA and its’ community.
· Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all aquatic staff including, but not exclusive of the main facility and Camp High-Tor. Ensure that there is adequate staffing at all times to provide the necessary level of service and safety within approved budget constraints and in adherence of the Dumont Tri-County YMCA’s Aquatic Safety Plan. Ensure all staff has necessary background and training to conduct and operate the aquatic facilities within approved YMCA standards and safety. Maintain appropriate records of necessary and required certifications which include but are not exclusive of, CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, first aid, oxygen administration, lifeguard certification or Y.A.S.A. certification, and child abuse prevention training. Ensure staff have needed certifications and renewals within appropriate time frame and report all certifications to the Operations Coordinator for his records. Staff evaluations will be conducted at year end.
· Ensures a culture of safety. Leads practices and procedures in accordance with regulations, national safety and training standards, insurance, YUSA guidelines, WV DHHR code, Model Aquatic Health Code, and the Dumont Tri-County YMCA Aquatic Safety Plan.
· Develop, schedule, and implement in-service trainings for staff on a monthly basis to ensure staff are trained in proper protocols and procedures per their required certifications and the Dumont Tri-County YMCA Aquatic Safety Plan. In-service trainings will include, but are not exclusive of safety standards, zone coverage, proper use of equipment, knowledge of systems, and emergency procedures. Staff should be knowledgeable of where and how to obtain necessary supplies to perform their job, cleaning procedures use of equipment, the chain of command, and the source for proper information they may not know.
· Develop with the Competitive Swimming Director and the Executive Director, schedules for pool operations. Cooperate with Senior Staff and other Coordinators to develop balanced and smooth operating schedules.
· Oversee the maintenance of all pool facilities. Maintain safe, efficient pool operations through overseeing chemical quality, pool maintenance, cleaning and safety equipment, backwash procedures, and temperature readings. Coordinate with the maintenance staff to maintain safe operational standards. Conduct weekly safety checks of pools. See that the appropriate people are aware of needed maintenance and/or repair of equipment, and that repairs are accomplished in a timely fashion.
· Ensure aquatic licensing requirements are met.
· Promote and market programs and activities within job scope. Ensure that information needed for the production of program brochures and other YMCA marketing tools are supplied in a correct and timely fashion to the specified person(s).
· Develop and control annual department budget. Exercise necessary controls to assure operation of programs are carried out in a balanced fiscal operational result. Monitor fees due for program services to ensure payments received. Verify payments for programs with class rosters showing fees paid with registration forms and make sure any unpaid fees are collected. Monitor all aquatic classes for participation levels and alter class offerings based on necessary minimum enrollment numbers.
· Coordinate with the Rental Coordinator rentals for the Aquatic Center and Camp High-Tor pool. Ensure adequate staff is scheduled and present for duration of event(s).
· In conjunction with the Competitive Swimming Director, establish and maintain a good working relationship with Putnam County high school swim teams.
· This position is responsible for the purchasing, inventory, and storage of all supplies and equipment related to the job scope. Ensure that areas within this job scope are maintained in a clean and neat appearance, especially areas visible to the members, program participants, and general public.
· Keep accurate records essential for the control, evaluation, and reporting of programs to the Executive Director.
· Provides support to the Annual Financial Assistance Campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Assist in special events, including but are not exclusive of Annual Golf Outing, 5K race, Halloween Party, and Healthy Kids Day.
· Assist as needed with YMCA operations, building coverage, meetings, and special events.
· Participate as a member of the total staff team, contributing to the successful operations of the Dumont Tri-County YMCA and the YMCA of the USA and carry out all association policies. Project a positive image of the YMCA through positive relationships with members, program participants, YMCA staff, and the community.
