We are excited to offer the opportunity to work as a Substance Use Medical Director in either a part-time or full-time capacity in our Behavioral Health Services department. We have current availability to work at our Central Public Health Center, located in Wheaton, IL (up to full-time). The position will provide up to two days of direct clinical care, and pre-established hours for administrative tasks (policy/procedure review and approvals).
This position also provides a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative project in our county. Targeted to open mid-year 2025, the Crisis Recovery Center (CRC) will provide our residents with immediate access to mental health and substance use care when experiencing a crisis. This position will assist with oversight and policy development for the CRC.

- Provides direction and clinical supervision to assigned medical staff (APN’s)
- Participates in processes for training medical staff
- Provides clinical case consultation and regularly scheduled staffings with clinical team
- Reviews data related to the provision of services and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and/or service delivery
- Provides comprehensive evaluations and follow-up treatment
- Maintains records of treatments according to agency and professional standards; per state requirements when required, reviews and sign-off on substance use evaluations to confirm diagnosis and patient placement as outlined within adopted regulations
- Reviews and signs off on health screenings
- Orders labs or other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained; determines nature and extent of substance use disorders and formulates treatment plans
- Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion in making position related decisions
- Develops and/or approves substance use-related standard operating procedures and standing orders
- Participates in emergency activities as assigned
- Provides back up to the Medical Officer, as requested and appropriate
- Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification
Medical Degree from an accredited U.S. Medical or Osteopathic School (M.D. or D.O.) or Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification; successful completion of an Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency experience providing supervision and direction to staff; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This position requires an active Illinois Medical License; Valid Illinois Controlled Substance Certificate; Valid Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Controlled Substance Certificate,
