Description
Our site in Copley, OH currently has an exciting opportunity for a Unit EHS (Environmental, Health, & Safety) Specialist to provide technical leadership and direct the environmental, industrial hygiene and safety (EHS) and process safety management activities at the DuPont Copley site within our Multibase™ business. The successful candidate will provide leadership and technical consulting on safety, industrial hygiene, process safety and environmental management and work closely with the site Leadership Team, Integrated Health Services, EHS leaders from other site locations and Business EHS leaders. The EHS Specialist will report directly to the Site Manager and ensure that programs meet corporate governance and regulatory needs.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure that systems are established and implemented to enable understanding of compliance requirements for the site and business. Strong knowledge and working experience with US occupational health, safety, process safety management and environmental regulations as well as industrial hygiene is required.
- Manage the manufacturing site’s EHS programs and work to integrate these programs into business operations to promote and stimulate awareness of the EHS competencies.
- Analyzes and evaluates EHS performance across the site to identify and implement opportunities for improvement. Develops strategic EHS performance improvement plans and goals across the unit.
- Provide EHS guidance within the unit to drive a Commitment to Zero culture.
- Internal and external networking with other DuPont EHS professionals, trade and professional associations as well as businesses, sites, and other functions on tools and approaches for EHS compliance and be effective in shaping policy, best practices and standards for the site.
- Oversee the site’s industrial hygiene programs including occupational monitoring.
- Lead the site’s process safety management program in alignment with company standards and regulatory mandates.
- Conduct 1st Party EHS Audits and work with the leadership team to analyze results to drive continual improvement.
- Coordinate 2nd party audits schedule and execution (Process Safety Management, EHS, Fire, Electrical, etc.). Develop and implement plans to resolve any audit findings for Process Safety Management (PSM), Safety and Industrial Hygiene, Fire, Distribution and Environmental assessments.
- Support injury and illness recordkeeping and case management process; maintain relevant logs and documentation.
- Participate in field auditing and ensuring strong visibility for interactions with employees.
- Provide supervisory guidance and development to all EHS resources to ensure technical/functional and operating skills are current and effective.
- Coaches teams and individuals on EHS issues. Provide geographic specific advocacy for the site.
- Site Responsible Care Management System leader.
Qualifications
- BS in a basic science or technical degree in the field of EHS management. An advanced degree in a basic science or technical field associated with EHS is preferred. 5-10 years of site operations related experience is required for this position.
- Strong leadership, people management and development skills in an industrial environment.
- Certified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (or equivalent certification recognized by the International Occupational Hygiene Association National Accreditation Recognition Committee) is desired but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines as well as manage change and work independently.
- Experience and working knowledge of U.S. occupational health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong industrial hygiene competency and environmental knowledge with demonstrated operational expertise and ability to analyze technical and regulatory information and provide prudent recommendations to all levels at the site.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize computer software (systems used are Microsoft Office, intra/internet, etc.) including helping to implement the Cority industrial hygiene software system.
- Networking, influence, and conflict resolution skills with strong focus on deliverables with excellent oral and written skills along with the ability to apply these in the regulatory, advocacy and public affairs culture
