Mechanic/Maintenance Technician - SE NM- Maljamar, NM and/or Artesia/Carlsbad, NM

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining equipment at the field natural gas compressor stations or mechanical maintenance at natural gas processing plant. Performs work related to maintenance, repair, and operation of natural gas compression and plant equipment, including processing plant equipment, pumps, gas and refrigeration compressors, coolers, electric generation, dehydration equipment, and control systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform or assist with routine maintenance and repair and operations of field and/or plant equipment, including compressor equipment, pumps, coolers, dehydrators, separators, and pneumatic and electronic control systems with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and instrumentation systems.

2. Troubleshoot mechanical problems when there are failures or signs of failure to engines, compressors, pumps, or any other mechanical equipment and then make appropriate repairs.

3. Perform overhauls of compressors and engines and re-condition equipment, as needed.

4. Collect oil samples for analysis.

5. Prepare maintenance reports on a daily basis to maintain equipment record keeping.

6. Performs tests, calibrations and repair of safety, control, and shut down devices on a regularly scheduled basis.

7. Directs contract labor when necessary and monitors the activity of third-party representatives when present on company sites.

8. Organizes and maintains housekeeping of compressor stations, as well as individual work sites, as applicable.

9. May be involved with ordering parts, services and materials.

10. May be involved in the training and development of other personnel in the repair and troubleshooting of equipment.

11. Ensures maintenance is complete on assigned company vehicle.

12. Adheres to safety and environmental policies and ensures others follow safety policies.

13. Attends and actively participates in safety meetings and proactively supports the company safety program.

14. Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· High school diploma or equivalent is required.

· Candidate to have a minimum of two years' experience in the maintenance of natural gas engines and compressors or relevant experience/knowledge within an industry that utilizes similar equipment.

· Must have working knowledge of electronic and pneumatic control systems for natural gas engines.

· Must be proficient with hand and power tools as they apply to equipment maintenance and repair.

· Preference is for candidates with at least 3-5 years working knowledge of natural gas compressor station and plant equipment maintenance and operation or relevant experience/knowledge within an industry that utilizes similar equipment.

· Prefer candidates with experience with engine/compressor control panels, both electronic and pneumatic as well as knowledge of engine emission control devices and working knowledge of 40 CFR Subpart KKK and HH monitoring regulations and also knowledge of pneumatic and electronic gas detection and emergency shut down system operation, repair, and maintenance.

· Must be able to work a rotating on-call schedule and respond to callouts, as needed.

· Must have a valid driver's license and selected candidate must be able to successfully complete the company pre-employment process including background/driver's license check and be insurable under the Company vehicle insurance policy.

· Must be detail oriented and have good mathematical skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; ability to calculate compressor efficiency, performance and loadings).

· Must have computer experience, with preference for experience in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

· Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately both orally and in written format; must be able to prepare reports to convey information clearly and concisely.

· Must have ability to read and understand technical materials/manuals.

· Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, customers, and the general public.

· Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision.

· Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and projects in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a field pipeline of plant setting with exposure to vibration, high noise levels related to loud machinery, and temperature variations. Work is normally performed out of doors in all weather conditions and requires ability to work in all climates and temperatures to do repairs on equipment.

Position requires ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl while working on or around pipe or other equipment. Also, the ability to occasionally climb and balance and work at an elevated working surface, or work in a confined area. Position requires ability to use hands to handle or feel items; reach with hands and arms, including reaching or stretching from side to side or overhead, or using arms and hands to exert force to open and close valves.

Position requires ability to lift and/or push or transport minimum of 50 lbs. The employee must regularly/frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and /occasionally lift and/or move or transport 50 to 70 pounds, using proper lifting techniques. Ability to occasionally exert pulling force of 130 pounds.

Personnel must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in performance of work.

Position requires driving a company vehicle in all weather conditions with some travel over uneven terrain.

Position requires ability to operate tools and equipment as required.

Must be able to react immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.

Work requires some use of computers with exposure to video display terminals.

Work involves some after-hour callouts during the week and/or on weekends (on a rotating basis) to respond to equipment and other field operations issues.

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of the job.

Note: the level at which position is staffed will depend on qualifications and experience.
