Reviews history reports to monitor standard costs and estimate accuracy. Reviews discrepancies in estimate versus actual costs to seek out the root causes of variances. Updates estimating tools, programs and processes as necessary to ensure they meet the needs of the organization. |
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for presenting quotations to customers.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
- Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates.
- Prepares shop routers based on engineering drawings, work order history and input from Manufacturing Engineers.
- Analyze closed work order reports to determine if shop routers or estimating templates need to be modified to reflect a more accurate cost.
- Provide cost scenarios on new projects based on preliminary design concepts provided by Engineering.
- Evaluate cost savings initiatives for return on investment.
- Maintains and updates cost estimation tools programs and processes based on trends in labor consumption and material costs.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Education and/or Experience
- Some college courses; preferably an AA degree in Manufacturing or Industrial and/or one to two years related experience. Must be able to use Excel and Word. Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and sketches. Must be able to use, analyze and evaluate MRP data. Knowledge of design and manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Abilities
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Other Skills/Abilities
- Must be familiar with computer capabilities and programs such as MS Word, Excel and MRP software.
