This Role:
Our team is currently seeking a Drafter based at our production facility in Huntsville, AL. This will be a full-time, on-site role on the day shift.
What You Will Do:
In a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, the applicant is expected to use computer aided design (CAD) software to provide support to engineers by preparing 3D models, drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Creates detailed mechanical drawings including all views and dimensions necessary to define a manufactured component. Possesses a basic understanding of complex 3D modeling, mechanical drafting, and other techniques relevant to mechanical design. Possesses mechanical aptitude with the ability to assist in basic lab and shop operations. Competent with basic mathematical calculations. Must have a broad working knowledge of general manufacturing methods.
How You Will Do It:
- Reviews engineering specifications and provides drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
- Works collaboratively with engineers and other technical personnel to transforms initial rough product ideas and/or customer requirements into working mechanical designs using computer aided design software.
- Skills required include 3D computer modeling, mechanical drafting, free-form surfacing, and the ability to design for manufacturing.
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using CAD software.
- Assists in maintaining configuration management over the electronic drawing database.
- May perform a variety of complex technical design tasks using computer aided design (CAD) software and equipment with minimum supervision.
- Accountable for preparation of a complete mechanical design and drawing packages.
- Accuracy and completeness are required to convey engineering design to manufacturing intent to assure production at the required level of integrity and quality.
- Ability to layout end item and sub-assemblies considering all design criteria.
- May participate as required in design reviews; may be a member of various decision-making boards involving design and manufacturing.
What We’re Looking For:
Candidates who offer:
- Current U.S. work authorization without requiring future sponsorship (required)
- 2 – 5 years of directly relevant experience in mechanical design and drafting
- Must possess the ability to read and understand drawings and written work instructions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to perform complex 3D modeling and surfacing.
- Ability to prepare mechanical drawings.
- Ability to check materials and components selected.
- A basic working knowledge of materials, welding, heat treating, iridizing, anodizing, finishing processes, and other manufacturing methods and capabilities.
- Experienced in the use of 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, CREO, etc.
- Ability to convert drawings to laser nesting programs using software such as Striker.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively before engineers and employees.
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts and the fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
- Commitment to producing quality product.
- Deadline conscious.
- Punctuality, consistency, and a strong work ethic are mandatory.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- High level of knowledge and ability in the use of Microsoft Office® products.
- Direct manufacturing experience is a plus.

Work Environment:
This work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment. This work sometimes requires being out on the production floor. Physical demands include ability to lift and/or move 10-25 pounds. Due to the metal nature of materials used in this facility, PPE will include steel toed shoes, protective eyewear, and arm sleeves.
