What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Instructor - Division of Police position at Dynamic Systems Technology?
Scope of Work: The Instructor shall provide professional training instruction to the Division of Police (DP)
located at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Provide high quality training to law enforcement officers and civilians of the NIH police and instill the technical and analytical knowledge, skills and behaviors needed for the highest proficiency in this specialized field utilizing prescribed curriculum.
- Serve as a team leader on working groups to review proposals and strategies for program modifications and/or new program development.
- Design, implement and develop programs and course materials pertaining to law enforcement hot topics.
- Annually, propose a training calendar to the Training Director for approval.
- Use diverse instructional methods to present law enforcement subjects in classrooms and during practical application sessions.
- Train new instructors how to review lesson plans and training courses by using the FLETC and NIH approved lesson plan as a guide.
- Develop programs which expose every officer to a broad base of techniques, tactics, teaching methodologies, and technical knowledge to develop the skills required to effectively perform his or her role within the NIH Police.
- Update course curriculum as directed by Senior Instructor and/or Management.
- Teach customized training courses authorized by the Training Director.
- Conduct mobile training.
- Explains and demonstrates techniques and use of equipment.
- Evaluates the abilities of individuals to determine suitable corrective or remedial training.
- Maintains overall safety and organization of the training environment.
- Ensure safety of participants. Communicates and oversees compliance with agency. policy, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Ensure accountability for all training equipment.
- Exercise oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion.
- Work in a busy training environment with frequent interruptions. In addition to work in a classroom setting, frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions, including heat, cold, and humidity.
- Work with scheduler from each Branch to schedule officers for training.
- Conduct research on the most current concepts, principles, techniques and practices of training technology and methodology for law enforcement. Facilitate lesson plan revision teams to revise lesson plans that include diverse instructional methods for presentation of law enforcement subjects in classrooms and during practical applications sessions.

- Use lecture, demonstration and range exercises to provide instruction in Basic, refresher, and Instructor-level training.
- Handgun, Shotgun, Patrol Rifle, Tactical Shooting
- General Law Enforcement Instruction:
- Conduct In-Service training which is consistent with approved Lesson Plans.
- Instruct classes in the principles of proper weapons handling while conducting building searches and other law enforcement activities.
- Teach techniques such as, door entries, room clearing and building searches, contact and cover of suspects, and Danger Areas.
- Teach principles of tactical transitions involving barricaded suspects, hostage situations and active shooter/threat events.
- Design, develop and instruct active shooter programs and course materials.
Prerequisites:
- Must have been a Law Enforcement Officer and/or Criminal Investigator for a
minimum of 7 years. - Must have taught in a law enforcement academy-like setting.
- Must be able to travel to provide training to NIH Police officers in the DMV and
Montana. - Must be able to obtain NIH PIV badge.
