What You'll Do
As the Health and Safety Advisor, you will manage, plan, coordinate and direct H&S activities at manufacturing, transport, distribution and field service sites to reduce risk of employee injury, community impact and property loss. You will provide Point of Contact interface and services to Regional Business Unit GM and Management Team in relation to all aspects of H&S and Security. Other duties will include:
- Thorough working knowledge and understanding of H&S regulatory compliance requirements for U.S. locations. (Local, state/national).
- Support field Operations and Business Unit leadership with development and implementation of sustainable management strategies to achieve Company H&S management system objectives.
- Support implementation of process safety management programs.
- Facilitate incident investigation and root cause analysis activities to continually reduce risk and improve Company performance.
- Promote the use of Individual risk assessment methodologies to increase awareness of personal safety factors.
- Mentor and coach BU leadership in the use of techniques and employee centered involvement initiatives that increase employee awareness of their role in ensuring a safe place of work.
- Provide training to employees focused on all aspects of H&S activities and expectations
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, teambuilding workshops and special working groups to continually improve performance and replicate best practices
- Develop and deliver or applicable H&S training for employees, supervisors, and management team.
- Direct and support H&S functions at multiple facilities regionally.
- Monitor regulatory arena for new regulations and rulemaking.
- Act as H&S consultant to Business Units.
- Oversee Workers Compensation issues including modified duty for return to work programs.
- Demonstrate a strategic approach for H&S in supporting business units.
- Provide leadership and direction to all echelons of employees to continue to shape a world class safety culture;
- Provide analysis and support for office and field staff; providing safety support through active participation and guidance on how to perform site work
- 50% may out-of-state-travel required to attend operational work sites and meetings.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety Management or related field or equivalent work experience is required. Advanced degree and/or professional certification desired. (CSP or CIH Preferred)
- 5 years H&S experience in a chemical manufacturing, processing or field service related industry involving chemical handling. Commercial explosives and/or mining industry, or industrial/occupational hygiene experience preferred. Two or more years supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Industrial/Occupational Hygiene certification preferred.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365 and Access.
- Occupational Safety and Health, Health and Safety Management or engineering, PSM.
