Interim Medical Record Director
Job Summary:
Interim Medical Record Director is responsible for leading the Coding, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Education, Auditing, Medical Records, Transcription, Release of Information, Discharge Analysis, and Data Integrity (MPI) functions. The Interim Director will work closely with HIM Management, Compliance, Revenue Cycle, Medical Staff and Hospital Administration and other Stakeholder. The Interim HIM Director works with the Client in a temporary director capacity, either on-site or remotely, to ensure the facility’s HIM department functions normally while the current director is on leave.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports to and coordinates the Medical Record Department’s strategic direction and operational initiatives with the System Director of Compliance, Privacy, Ethics, and HIM
- Leads Medical Record Department operations and ensures goals and KPI’s are achieved
- Manages vendors to ensure adequate coverage, quality, and productivity.
- Works with Senior leaders to drive key system initiatives
- Leverages best practice methodologies to deliver medical record services that are compliant, optimized, and meet internal and external customer requirements
- Recruits, interviews, and hires medical records team members as requested
- Creates a positive team environment and engagement strategies for onsite and remote workforce.
- Monitors established performance standards and goals for direct reports. Takes action when standards are not meet
- Medical record liaison between administration, providers, revenue cycle, quality, CDI, coding, and other Client Health stakeholder
- Prepares reports and/or attends administrative, medical staff, and other hospital committees as requested
- Works with Providers to solve issues and build positive relationships and trust.
- Works within EPIC and performs optimization tasks as directed
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate must possess RHIT, RHIA and a coding credntail preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AHIMA certified HIM Program or Nursing Program strongly preferred
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in supervisory role
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in coding, auditing, and/or project management required
- Experience with multiple electronic medical record and billing systems required
- Extremely skilled with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Excellent client and customer relations skills required
- Must communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization and express ideas and information clearly and concisely, in both verbal and written form

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sitting, talking, hearing and near vision are required over 90% of the time, while walking is required frequently throughout the day. Standing is required over 10% of the time. Feeling is required 90% of the time and reaching is required about 50% of the time. Bending, twisting and climbing are required, as in far vision, but only for 10% or less of the time. Low levels of lifting (10 pounds of less) is required about 25% of the time, while medium levels (20 to 40 pounds) of lifting and carrying are required less than 5% of the time. Ability to travel to field sites may be required up to 15% of the time.
WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Over 90% of the time is spent indoors, with protection from weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable is present in only unusual situations.
