GENERAL SUMMARY
The Plant Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations and maintenance of the hydro station.
The Plant Manager is considered a Supervisory position and it is expected that the successful candidate will be required to plan and manage the activities of the union staff.
This position is salaried with opportunities for Short Term Incentive payout.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Plant Manager reports to the General Manager and supervises the O&M staff at the York Haven site.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Plant Manager operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints.
The successful candidate must oversee the operation of the projects in a safe, reliable manner that allows the company to meet all of our regulatory and compliance requirements. As a front-line supervisor, the successful candidate must consistently demonstrate a high level of dedication to the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment. A strong commitment to the implementation of all employee safety, public safety, dam safety, and environmental programs that may be instituted by the company is required for this position.
The Plant Manager is responsible for effectively and professionally communicating information to the General Manager and the Division Manager, fellow supervisors, subordinate operation and maintenance personnel and personnel from other departments within the company. The Plant Manager is also expected to communicate and coordinate with outside agencies, contractors, and members of the public in a professional manner that enhances and maintains the company’s image.
The Plant Manager will be required to work within budgetary guidelines and assist the General Manager and Division Manager with the development of yearly budgets and the tracking of expenditures.
The Plant Manager must ensure the plants are operated in a manner that maximizes production while still meeting regulatory and environmental requirements.
All employees have the responsibility to both the company and their co-workers to perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Directing plant employees in the operation and maintenance of generating units to ensure continuing high reliability and safety. Evaluate employee performance of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Develop work schedules and make sure plants are properly manned as required. Monitor and coordinate call out responses. The Plant Manager will be required to respond to call out situations.
Provide support for Outage planning, scheduling, and contractor coordination.
Resolve plant problems including troubleshooting, repair, replacement and root cause analysis.
Oversee the plant LOTO program and develop and maintain equipment specific LOTO procedures.
Work with O&M staff to develop and maintain Job Safety Analyses for both common and infrequent work tasks.
Report abnormal or emergency plant conditions to the General Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy.
Oversee the training of all plant personnel and verify that all required training is completed in a timely manner.
Prepare required reports for other company departments or outside agencies.
Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
Utilizing river and weather forecasts, provide forecasted generation information for use in Day-Ahead bids to generation marketing.
Aids other company departments in preparing for and coordinating inspections, responding to information requests, supporting strategies for and negotiations of permit modifications and renewals, and preparing routine compliance reports and communications.
Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise.
Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operations and maintenance personnel.
Support equipment operation through the implementation of preventive, predictive, scheduled and corrective maintenance planning and procedures. Utilize CMMS system to track and record maintenance activities.
The Plant Manager is expected to participate in daily divisional calls to provide updated information on plant activities and issues.
Work to issue Purchase Orders for material and on-site work. Track expenditures versus approved budget and consult with the Division Manager for any significant variances.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include working on feet for extensive periods, stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must possess an unwavering commitment to providing a safe work environment for himself and other employees.
10 years of power plant or similar experience required. Hydropower turbine generator experience highly desirable. Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) experience is highly desirable. Experience with MS Office products is desirable, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
